Owner at the counter is a middle aged man, very friendly which is great if you are looking for conversation while waiting for food. Pies taste great and have a homey feel to them. Prices are very cheap relative to the area. Totally recommend a visit, but don’t forget to bring cash.

New to the Berkeley community and have rarely felt so welcome as I did eating at Zak’s recently. His big smile and warm personality are exceeded only by the size and deliciousness of his sandwiches. The grilled eggplant sandwich was fantastic and competitively priced. Highly recommend.

Love love love! Owner is so kind and extremely welcoming, his personality really lights up the room and you can tell how passionate he is about his shop. Cute little deli. Owner is a chill dude. Good spot for a quick bite (MEAT PIES) but its only open from 8AM to 3PM. And bring cash, its cash only. Prices are low for the UCB area. Good for students on a budget. Angel Rodriguez, the owner from Cabanas Cafe, told me I should post more 5 star reviews. So here it is. Check out Zak’s Snacks for some MEAT PIES. 5 stars.

Agree with the other 5 stars on the food and friendly shop owner Jamal. Part Syrian myself the smells of middle eastern food zaatar, cinnamon and freshly baked bread filled the air while I watched Jamal working the dough and cooking as my grandmother and mother did. Truly a treat!

Phenomenal experience! PHENOMENAL FOOD. Jamal is a very nice guy with a really great outlook on life and he makes food from scratch with his own recipe using good ingredients. When I went the first time,I actually came back for more Za’atar pies.
