Amazing food. There is so much more to Japanese good than just sushi / sashimi. Chef Yuji does a fantastic job in bringing out traditional Japanese kappa / Kaiseki style flavors with high quality ingredients. They also allow 180ml (quarter bottle portion) for sale so you can taste a variety. Great line up of sake. Will be revisiting often 🙂

This was easily one of the best omakases I’ve ever experienced, including many in Japan. Interesting and delicate flavors, beautifully paced and coursed, traditional dishes and ingredients with exciting twists. Every course was stunning with a surprising element – like matcha salt to pair with perfectly fried tilefish, or juicy sansho peppercorns that burst in a sweet sauce paired with melt in your mouth, Hokkaido Wagyu… the list goes on. What an incredible meal, absolutely worth it! Can’t wait to visit again to see what the chef comes up with next.

What an amazing experience. I could say that most of the flavors we tried were completely new to us. Dishes change periodically, all signature designs, with ingredients brought from Japan. The Chef is very humble, I would even say shy when receiving compliments. They create a very nice atmosphere. Thank you once again for a marvelous evening.

YUJI is the literal definition of a hidden gem… tucked away in the heart of Japantown, this restaurant offers a variety of dishes and flavors that gradually crescendo into a meal that can only be described as a symphony for the palate. If you are lucky enough to go now and get in on the experience before their notoriety takes off – get in now, as it is a matter of time before they are starred. The attention to detail in each dish and cut is complimented by the utmost care and professionalism in their service.

Really enjoyed the place! Was nice and small, the food was less focused on sushi and more on a variety of foods that just so happen to have sushi in the tasting menu, which is more my preference.

An intimate and delicious experience. If you’re in the market for some authentic kaiseki this is a great spot to try. The head chef spent the last 25 years mastering a whole host of advanced techniques showcased in the 10 course dinner which changes daily/seasonally. The chawan mushi was a stand out for me, and I loved the tile fish tempura. In true Japanese style it is a tucked away out of sight at the top of the stairs of a rather dilapidated building.

12 courses of impeccably prepared, creative, varied, beautiful, and above all — delicious — food. Chef Yuji is a master, and Kappo Yuji is a worthy addition to the best of SF’s fine dining scene.

I loved it here. My partner and I were lucky enough to be the only ones at the 8PM seating on a Thursday, so we had the privilege of being one-on-one with chef Yuji, who was so fun to watch and talk to. The wagyu beef, sashimi, creme brulee, seared sea bass, and uni were all memorably delicious. Don’t hesitate to spring for any of the sashimi specials before dessert if you’re still hungry. We both have big appetites and left super satisfied.

Amazing 12-course kappo meal in Japan town. Every course was exquisitely prepared in front of the 9 guests. Chef Yuji is a master with a knife. Best tempura I’ve ever had. Menu changes with the season – we were told that summer fish would start arriving in July. Not cheap but great value for the skill and quality of ingredients. Can’t wait to go again. It’s a little hard to find – it’s on the second floor and you have to go up an outdoor staircase.
