The Veranda Restaurant fine dining restaurant has been serving Bar Harbor since 1998. Back then, we began serving prix fixe dinner in our breakfast room. Although popular, we wanted to offer a service to complement the hotel. The Veranda Bar now offers innovative cocktails and food with an unprecedented view of Frenchman’s Bay.

The AAA Four Diamond restaurant has also been recognized by Wine Spectator.
We present a seasonal cocktail menu with only fresh made mixers, syrups, and infusions.

Product local to New England is the main inspiration in the kitchen. Our menu changes weekly depending on the ingredients local farmers have to offer. Check out our “partners” page for more information on the farms we source from.

Great food with good service. Had the seafood pasta for my son (bad mussel that made me gag…no way it was closed and alive before cooking). Had the duck again this year and it was superb like last year. The duck is 5 stars as is the short rib that my wife had. The waiter seemed unphased by the mussel issue. He was not really good at catching cues either. That said, our waiter from the year before who is exceptional was there also so it varies. The cocktails are wonderful! I recommend everything here except the pasta.

Beware: none of the waiters wear a mask. I’m not sure if they are vaccinated. From one staff’s conversation with a nearby table, it seemed like some were not and refused to. As of this post, Maine has a law that requires people to wear mask indoors in public places, and it makes me uncomfortable that the restaurant is not following the law nor informing its patrons about its choice of not taking covid precautions.

We came just for drinks and were seated at the fire pit. It was cold, but the fire felt nice and there were blankets. We chatted with a group of ladies celebrating, which was nice.

This was the best meal I had in Maine, and one of the best meals in my life. I am worried that many people will miss this place since it lies at the end of a secluded side street at the end of a main road, so unless you want to go here on purpose, you will not see it from the street and could easily go about your business never knowing its existence. I found this place by searching for ‘romantic restaurants’ while doing my vacation research, since this was going to be my one nice date night with my husband while we had a babysitter on vacation, and I am so glad we chose this place.

We could only get in for dessert and cocktails. Richard and Siera treated us like royalty. The dessert was the best dessert I had in my life. The dessert chef made my dessert grain and starch free. It had tiny marshmallows on it. I haven’t had marshmallows in 15 years since having to give up starch, gluten and grains. The cocktail was so beautiful and entertaining and delicious. Will definitely go back but this time we will make sure we attempt to make reservations in plenty of time. Thank you Richard, Sierra and the dessert Chef. This day was the best day of our entire vacation thanks to Richard.
