Just passing through, I saw the classic-looking restaurant with the tribal name and lots of cars parked out front. Seemed like a good bet. Inside I was seated quickly. The servers seemed to be handling the crowd well, which appeared to include many regulars. I was happy to see Navajo tacos on the extensive menu, something I had enjoyed years earlier at another 4 Corners restaurant. What came out was not what I was expecting. The fry bread was the best part, but it was difficult to cut and seemed undercooked. The lettuce and tomato were fine, but I was surprised to see chopped onions on it after the server told me it would have green onions. The server asked if I wanted red or green chile, and I chose red, but what came out was dull brown and tasted more like the beans than any peppers. It reminded me of store brand canned chili, but the small cup of salsa improved the taste somewhat. The dusting of shredded cheese quickly melted into the runny chili. While I waited for the food, I went to the restroom to wash my hands, but since there was no soap, and the paper towel dispenser was broken, I left feeling less clean than before. I asked the server if they had any soap to refill the dispenser, and one of the kitchen staff went in to take care of it while I paid. I went back to the restroom on my way out, and found the dispenser filled with pink dishwashing detergent. Better than nothing I guess. Overall it was a mixed experience. Fortunately there are many other options in town.

The best places to eat are usually where the locals hang out. That proved true for the Ute cafe. A big menu and nothing looked bad. Staff was on top of things and food tasted fresh. Great breakfast place

I have been here a couple of times before, very good breakfast. This time I had a chicken wrap. It comes with fries. I like the decor and atmosphere, it feels like an authentic casual local place. Always cheerful and friendly service.

This places hands down and has the best breakfast around. Their pancakes have a crunch to them. Can you believe that.❤️ Not to mention the bacon so thick and crispy omg. There grits made to perfection. I found my new breakfast spot here.

Rudest people I’ve ever encountered at a diner. Every single one of them. That’s a one and done for sure. The waitress was hostile from the start. My chili cheese omelet had no chili and I didn’t even complain about it. But when I tried ordering a bowl of chili the waitress hatefully snapped at me(I paid and left after telling her nevermind about the chili). Before that I was greeted with hostility by a separate waitress when I informed her that there was no soap to wash my hands with in the bathroom. Apparently the rudest of them(my waitress) is the owner’s daughter. So it’s just a jerkwater little operation. Welcome to Cortez!

Awesome place I hope these diner’s stay in business for a long time. My favorite was the chicken fried steak. You can’t beat home style cooking, not box shiipped in meals. Thank you.
