The food here was subpar. I ordered the chicken/steak combo that came with noodles, hibachi rice, and salad. The chicken was OK, but the steak was tough, which I requested medium well. The hibachi rice was the best dish by far. The noodles, chicken, and steak were drenched in some nasty teriyaki sauce with no other flavors. The salad they gave me was old and brown and half the soup that came with the meal spilled in the bag. AND to top it off there was a roach that wouldn’t leave me alone

Ordered the hibachi chicken dinner and the only good part of it was the chicken. Both the hibachi noodles and rice seemed to be seasoned only with oil and pepper — no flavor at all. Soup was bland and salad was just lettuce drenched in dressing. On top of all that, we were charged a $7 service fee and were only visited twice by our waiter. Don’t waste your time or money.

I usually only come to Umi for their sushi, which is consistently delicious – I’d recommend their Chocolate City roll (spicy tuna, snow crab, avocado, topped with seared tuna, wrapped in soy paper, and chef’s sauce) or their normal Philadelphia Roll. But we sat at their hibachi table this time. This is how much food I had leftover after eating an entire meal’s worth at the table!

Quality of fish used in Sushi was horrible and tasted bad. They used some type of red hot sauce over the cut of fish like they were trying to mask the cheap meat and only used it on the normal good cuts of meat no red sauce on anything else that was already disgusting. This place is not cheap and should have good quality of fish not my 1st time here but definitely the 1st time I’ve ever had a sauce put on a cut of fish to mask it. Will go back eventually but if the same thing is done again I’ll never get Sushi from Umi again

We stopped by this restaurant to celebrate my husband’s birthday 11/6/18. We’re from Miami and were in town for the week and I think our expectations were too high (We’re used to Benihana). For one, we appreciated the quantity of food we received but the place in general wasn’t too clean. There was a sink right next to our table. The table we sat at was dirty and had rice on the seats! The chef was nice but he cooked our food with an extremely dirty apron.

The only reason I’m giving this place 1 star because there was no option for zero stars….Horrible establishment, rude management/owners that seems to have an issue with blacks. The quality & service has gone downhill tremendously so do yourself a favor and Do not eat here especially is you’re African American …ikura in mid city and Akira in Metairie has way better service and food….. The bathrooms are dirty and didn’t have hand soap, the hibachi area has a funny smell, it just doesn’t feel clean at all in this restaurant. I’ll never step foot or spend another dime with this establishment.

I’ve been here twice, first time wasn’t a pleasant experience but the second time was great. If you want great service, I wouldn’t recommend going here with a large party (my first visit) the second visit, our chef stopped in the middle of cooking, moved the meat to the side and put the noodles and rice back on the plate to make sure he sanitized the grill because my son has an allergic reaction to eating eggs that we mentioned it to the waitress.
