If you want real sushi, and cannot go to Japan, Ume Sushi is the place to go in Houston Texas. This is a cute little place, but don’t make the small size fool you, there are at least nine chefs behind the sushi bar who are preparing your food to your taste. We started out with the cocktails, while we were waiting for our table, and I must say my Dirty Martini was up to my satisfaction. The staff seemed very nice and kind, and our waiter was exceptional. The reason I am giving 4 stars. here is the fact that the ambience seemed about average. That’s the only thing I can say negative about this place.

Rainbow sushi roll was delicious. Edamame was good, but I would’ve preferred it to be hotter and salted. The edamame came out a bit cold. I got a couple of traditional rolls which were pretty good too. Service was solid and it’s a really modern vibe. But honestly I think overall it’s a great experience at a very fair price point.

When I read about the place, they advertised themselves as a subsidiary of MF, a sushi place I am pretty fond of… surprisingly the menu in UME is very similar to the one of MF. However, regarding quality, MF is still superior as I believe UME is more like MF on a budget. Don’t let the lower prices fool you, as the food is still very good and you get a great bang for your buck! The location is ideal and in the middle of a nice area where you can have a beer after dinner!! I recommend this place highly!

I loved the ambiance, very trendy and warm. Simple flavors are added to the fish so they don’t overpower the fish itself. Best sushi rice I’ve probably ever had. The rolls we ordered were okay, I should have done more research from reviews and pictures (kamikaze and Weinstein), but the nigiri was great and the duck skewer is a must order. We also enjoyed the smoked hamachi. I wouldn’t say the spicy tuna balls are a must. The servers are very friendly, overall would come again!

Parking is always a challenge on this stretch of White Oak. There is a shared lot for several businesses as well as street parking. I like the giant door with the super tinted windows. Huge contrast when you step inside where it feels open and bright. The staff was very welcoming. We made a reservation before going, not sure if it’s required. All of the food was amazing! The fish was super fresh and prepared perfectly. Our server made several recommendations and everything was delicious. The black cod fish was flaky and cooked to perfection. The beef skewers were tasty. Depending on how and what you order, it can get a little expensive so be prepared for that. They do have a chef’s selection for both nigiri and sashimi. Overall, very pleased with the entire experience at this restaurant. If you like Japanese food / sushi, definitely worth a try.

Solid service and even better food. The entire dinner was pretty much in line with what I’ve been accustomed to with MF and that’s more or less what we were hoping for. Sitting at the sushi bar was a fun experience as it gave us more of an appreciation for the entire process. The biggest highlights of the meal were the Tuna Avocado Ball and Baked Lobster Tempura appetizer. Both were very unique and had a nice mix of flavors compared to a lot of typical sushi appetizers. The other dishes we had were all great as well, including all of the different nigiri dishes (A5 Wagyu Beef Aburi was the best). Definitely another sushi gem in town and one that I know I’ll go to again.
