The oxtail was very good but it had a lot of fat on it. Very tasty I would definitely recommend this place. The shrimp was very spicy but good. The drinks were good too! Come and eat here you won’t regret it.

I was in town, and I really wanted to try Ethiopian food, and so we found this place. First impressions were great. The atmosphere was artsy and fun, and the service was great. We were immediately seated. We both ordered mocktails to start, I had the pineapple cosno, and my mom had the Caribbean Shirley. Both were very good and not very sweet. We started with the yucca balls, yucca fries with both jams, and the steak satay. The steak satay was my favorite thing there. The flavor was super rich and umami with a great ginger flavor throughout. The yucca balls were very flavorful with the spices, and the texture was great. The yucca fries were a bit fibrous at times but had a great flavor. Later, we ordered the injera plate with chicken and an egg, and it was very good. Some flavors weren’t for me, but others were. My mother enjoyed everything. I guess we just have different palettes, but nothing was bad to me. My favorites were the chicken and the lentils. The eggplant was also very good but pretty spicy. We ordered extra injera to eat wothz and ended up taking leftovers home. For dessert, we had the cassava pudding thing, and I forgot the name. But it was very good. The flavor was a bit similar to a sweet potato casserole with nice warm spices and a sweet floral jam on top. It was very enjoyable. I also had their cola, which was also very good. Overall, it was a great experience. It was a bit pricey, especially compared to other places, but the food was worth it. I’ll be back to try more food!

Last night I kind of missed the Cuban food that I had in Key West, so I searched Cuban restaurants in Albany. Then I found Umana Yama. I’m not sure whether their food is Caribbean or African, but what we tried at today’s lunch were so great. The first picture was my order, Ethiopian Injera plate with fish, it was amazing! The fish was fresh (not the frozen kind), and was grilled perfectly, with a crispy touch outside, and tender & juicy inside. Along with the fish, there were all kinds of cooked or uncooked veggies, I love the smashed eggplant, very tasteful. The spices in this dish was so special, similar to Mediterranean style but with more layers. The second picture was my husband’s order, slow stewed oxtails. We never tried oxtails before, to me, it sounds a bit weird. But when the waitress brought the oxtail dish up, it smelled so good that I can’t help trying a little piece of it. It was so great! Both the oxtails and the rice were soaked with all kinds of spices and were very juicy. My husband and I were very satisfied and we definitely will come back and explore more of their menu! Love this place!

This place is such a experience! Umana Yana or Meeting place of the people! I love the idea of the place, different and interessting type of food, very creative, with a good vibe and kind young people willing to help with the menu! We loved everything we had here.

Great place to hangout and enjoy the atmosphere and food and drinks. The unique afrocarribean cuisine will pique your interest and curiosity. I suggest serving the injera bread on the side of the salads and protein. The fish tacos are tasty and filling. Good choices of craft beers and hot/ cold libations 🙂

Ok…this place is not to be missed. We tried the Red Curry Fish Tacos with sweet plantains, Yucca fries, Ethiopia Injera Plate, West African Jollof Rice, Golden Milk and the Mango Coconut Mocktail. One of the best meals we have had in a long time. Wish we lived closer, would be regulars. Staff was so friendly and the atmosphere was clean and welcoming…a true meeting place. Hope to visit again!

Not what I expected. Just not my vibe. But wasn’t a bad place. I just remember, wandering if the chef used a half a bottle of seasoning on the chicken. It was unbearable. Might give it another go.

This is by far the most eclectic restaurant in the area. Offers cuisine from several regions of the world: North/West African, Middle Eastern, South Asian and even Latin American food! Best described as Clean, Healthy, Fresh and definitely not greasy. Atmosphere is warm and inviting, has good ventilation and good lighting. I ordered the take out and it was simply devine. 10/10!

This was a great find. The dishes are flavorful with right amount of spice. Most of the menu is enticing. We ended up having fish tacos, red bean stew, oxtail and tofu satay. Our server was cordial and she helped us with customization. A must visit for a different kind of cuisine.
