We arrived around 5:30pm and was seated immediately. Dragon roll was my favorite. The cloudy saki is always fun. Great customer service.

My friend and I ordered gyoza for the appetizer and beef and chicken sukiyaki nabemono for the entrée. The fried gyoza was very soggy instead of crispy. It was also extra salty. The sukiyaki comes with a bowl of white rice, which feels unnecessary because nabemono already includes vermicelli noodles (not a complaint but an observation). The soup is sweet. I have never had sweet stew before, so I was excited to try it, but now I know that it’s not for me. My friend got the chicken sukiyaki, and she thought it was decent.

Sushi bar is no good. There is a wall so you can’t see the chefs at work. Also the wall has annoying lights glaring.

Yesterday, my wife and I had a delightful dining experience at the Japanese restaurant. We tried the delicious Chicken Teriyaki, Salmon Sake Roll, and Dragon Roll. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was inviting, creating a pleasant dining ambiance. Moreover, we were pleased with the reasonable prices, making it a fantastic value for the quality of food and overall experience. We highly recommend this restaurant for a satisfying Japanese culinary adventure.

Until our dishes arrived I thought this place was slightly pricey. But the food was very good and a fair value and totally recommended trying. The places feels dignified, the host is impeccable – she was friendly and knowledgeable, the server was not up to her level – he was friendly but not quite vested in providing great service nor being fully familiar or finding out about dishes he was unsure of. He was very pleasant, but requests were forgotten and needed reminders that sort of thing. Regardless totally try this place because the food scrumptious.

I’m definitely coming going back, short ribs to die for, even the miso soup that it’s usually plain was great. Had a couple of the signatures drinks and now I want to try them all.

Excellent sushi chef. Very courteous staff. Food is consistently excellent. Especially sushi and sashimi specials. Check the chalk board! Reliable standards, tuna, salmon, unagi. I love this place is so convenient in downtown SM.

I’ve been going to Tokies since the 80’s when they were in Charter Square in Foster City. It was always a great time with great food. Tokies Downtown has upped their game with a great bar and bartender! Same really good food but now there’s a bar where you can sit and enjoy drinks and your meal. Definitely recommend their sashimi.

California roll appetizer was reliably standard. Good, not great. The fried tofu was lightly breaded, barely fried, very soft and floating in a mild sauce. It was not the firm deep fried tofu with dipping sauce we were expecting. The miso soup had noodles, a surprise but tasty. The grilled salmon entree was moist inside and the skin was crispy. Very good but could have been better with a side sauce. Each time I have been here for dinner I have asked for brown rice but they never have it, that’s a disappointment because they offer it on their menu. Overall it is a good meal. The service was very good – pleasantly friendly.

Be VERY CAREFUL. They don’t treat all customers equally and one of the waiters spiked drink, very dangerous. I couldn’t walk (muscles were numb after the strong drink he recommended) and had after effects (dizziness, nausea, vomiting) for few days!
