Thomason’s Barbecue Menu – Henderson, KY

At Thomason’s BBQ, we’ve been smokin’ since the 60’s! All of our meat is smoked over hickory wood in a Pit centered in the middle of the restaurant, pulled by hand & dipped to order. We are best known for our BBQ Baked Beans & the smokey aroma wafting from our chimney.
Originally opened under a different name by the Willett’s & transitioned through several families including the Royster’s & Thomason’s until it was taken over by Frank Gibson in 1994. Fast Forward to today & you’ll find father – son team, Frank & Kevin building upon this little Henderson, KY BBQ joint’s reputation & honoring the past by still cooking up your favorite recipes, while also looking to the future with new things for your family to enjoy!

When I left the car I could smell the hickory smoke from the car. We ordered the sampler’s so we could try multiple meats. The chip (mutton & pork mix) was best as a sandwich to my taste. The pork, ribs, and turkey were moist and not dried out as is often the case at other BBQ places. Flavors were good. Baked Beans were spectacular. Chocolate & Coconut pies were very good and had a light meringue top. The chocolate was a very deep chocolate flavor. The samplers provided enough meat for a second meal the next day. The pie was eaten much later that day because we were stuffed. Seating is minimalistic with a few booths and a couple of chairs. Now if they would just bring back Diet RC! I want caffeine in my cola. The smell f the hickory smoke reminded me of Macs.

I ate here as a kid and liked it every time. Now I’m back 18 years later to visit family, and can say that the bbq is as good as it was back then. The mutton, pork, and beef don’t disappoint. As many people mention, the beans are what make this place really special. Western Kentucky BBQ is all about a vinegar based sauce (almost dip like in consistency) and this place does it right. Don’t let those complaining about a watery sauce scare you off, that’s how it’s supposed to be. Thank you for continuing to provide Henderson with amazing food. I look forward to my next visit.

People, prices and service were very friendly. Meat was okay but don’t order a sandwich. They don’t have BBQ sauce….it is BBQ juice and very watery and makes the buns all soggy where you can’t even pick it up. Recommend just getting a meat plate and dont mess with the bread. Oh yeah…everyone talks about the beans… they were also okay but nothing to write home to mama about. But we were told they bought 36000 lbs of beans last year so I guess the locals like them. My wife has a much better and more flavorful recipe so I wasnt impressed.

Perfection!! Vintage charm, hometown hospitality and if you get takeout, the longest drive home you’ll ever have. Everything from the food, the people and the marketing is spot on. This is a must visit!

Hands down, the best BBQ. Period. I’ve been enjoying their mutton and pork all my life and have never found their equal. If you’re in Henderson, give them a try.

By far the Best BBQ and beans around. I love the chopped BBQ pork and the mutton. The beans, I could eat a plate of them all by themselves. They are a secret recipe that is packed with meat and his special sauce that will have u coming back for more. I have bought a set of sauces boxed for gifting to send to a friend out of town. The fresh squeezed lemon aid with real cane sugar is sure to quench any thirst and not to mention the homemade pies that are sure to make you want to take one home.

I would give this place a second chance if I would be around Henderson and wanting some BBQ. The sauce is very runny however and I enjoy much thicker sauces. It doesn’t have much spice to it. I got the sampler plate and their beans. The beans are the best part and their most popular seller. If you like baked beans then you will enjoy those here! The pulled pork was okay, but I enjoy thicker sauce personally. But if you like BBQ and supporting local people then this is a great little food spot that is hidden in Henderson.

There is not a lot of seating here, diffantly not the biggest place in town, but award winning baked beans are the best in the tri-state. Ribs are really good, pulled pork is good, the mutton is fabulous.

Nowhere does it say anything about the BBQ mutton, and that’s what I go to Thomason’s for. Best mutton ever. I’m a W KY girl, born and bred, and BBQ means mutton to me!
