As a preface, we came to the restaurant at 5:00 pm. right at opening. The service was terribly slow, and the wait staff was too few to support the number of tables. That being said, the starters came out relatively quickly. The pork belly was decent and was cooked well and flavorful. The lobster bisque was much better than expected, given the location. The steaks were good quality, although one was medium well instead of the ordered medium rare. Otherwise, it is still one of the best options in the area.

Started with drinks in the bar and was served by one of the most entertaining, talented, and passionate bartenders I’ve seen in a while including Las Vegas. His name is Donnie.

Dinner entrée of walleye was bland. The side of “Brabant” potatoes were the same hashbrown cubes served the next morning for breakfast. Beet salad was good.

Excellent food! We were very impressed with the menu and learned a lot about some new, MUST-TRY cocktail recipes! They’re not just churning out the regular American recipes here… the homemade bread is fantastic!

Theodore’s, the restaurant inside the Rough Riders Hotel, has unbelievable food options. Seriously it’s unreal. And Donnie behind the bar is the best Bartender/mixologist I’ve ever met. He creates his own drinks, brings back vintage drinks made the old way, and my guy knows how to work a room. He can have that whole bar talking and laughing with each other and he puts on a show when making his drinks. He can tell you the history of a drink and the science behind it. He is absolutely phenomenal. Also, shout out to Eugene. He is that dude! Served us breakfast and hooked us up with great food options for breakfast and dinner. Everybody in Medora is amazing.

My review is for the Teddy tavern next to the dining room. Small bar. Sat at the bar. Their specialty drinks were fabulous. Donnie, bartender, loves his job. A true mixologist. He made his own syrups.

I debated leaving 3 or 4 stars. I will credit the restaurant for having excellent customer service and very pleasant servers, but I was very disappointed with the food. When we ate there on our travels, the special was prime rib, which my husband and I both ordered. It was not good. I had a huge chunk of fat in the middle of mine that wasn’t eatable. It was tough (not tender) and just extremely mediocre for the price. It was also served strange. The mashed potatoes were on the bottom, green beans on top of that, and then the prime rib smashed on top. The presentation was poor.

Excellente table, des plats cuisinés à la perfection par un chef à la recherche d’authenticité culinaire.

Recommended. Nice quiet place with good old charm oak interiors, clean tables and friendly staff. Our daughter loved the food and that tells a lot.. We ordered an omelet, Cowboy breakfast, and Eggs Benedict in Sandwich form. All was very well prepared. Coffee was good as well.

For a sit down meal in a town with no other nice restaurants this is a completely acceptable option and worth one night during your visit to Medora. There are plenty of gluten free options here and some options that can be modified to make them gluten free so be sure to speak to your waiter/waitress. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and not afraid to speak to the chef about modification so we could get the lobster bisque. It should be noted that this is located inside the Rough Riders hotel.
