Tasting a Sichuan peppercorn is like eating the forbidden fruit. You crave it for the rest of your life. And that’s why I spent my whole day driving for hours to Corvalis to get a dry pot from The Show Restaurant. Totally worth it, can’t wait to come back.

This is a cute spot on 9th Street just south of Circle Blvd. We ate on site today. There are a handful of tables in the restaurant and give off a cafeteria vibe. The tea and soup were, both, piping hot and flavorful. We each had a soup and learned that a small size could easily feed two. The appetizers and main course were flavorful, too. The table service was friendly and efficient. We plan to return and try the sushi options (as the pictures looked appetizing).

Very good, great presentation, one of the best Chinese I have ever had in Corvallis Oregon. But menu was a bit spendy..$$..

My fried really rice looks like steamed rice with veggies and meat added. Egg rolls were some how slimy in internal texture.

The cashier was super friendly. I enjoyed the chit chat. The broth of the soup was delicious . However I didn’t really like the noodles. It reminded me of spaghetti noodles. And the meat was super fatty. If you like to eat fat, you would love it. However, I do not like eating fat. I picked all the fat off the chunks of meat and you can see from the pics, there was a ton of it. The meat was tender and juicy and without fat on it, delicious. I don’t think I would order this same dish again, but I would come back and try something else. For me the soup itself was like 2.5 maybe 3 stars.

Stopped here for lunch. The pig intestines are made in authentic Chinese way. They also do fried meat skewers on certain days of the week.

The food was really good. Both authentic Chinese and American style Chinese dishes available. The servers are very helpful. This place can get a little busy just FYI.

I’m surprised that I’ve lived in Corvallis for a few years but only recently started going to the Show. I’ve been missing out on their mapo tofu this whole time! Hopefully your not vegetarian so you can have it with pork. But if you are, apparently they’ll make it without pork for you, so that’s cool. Shoot, I can’t remember which chicken dish it is now, I’m sure there’s a little pepper next to it on the menu, just beware that this dish (and probably other dishes) live up to the pepper icon. If you get the mapo tofu extra spicy, don’t worry, your mouth goes numb pretty quickly. [thumbs up]

Really great, authentic, very spicy Sichuan Cuisine. If you like the super spicy, try the delicious Chongqing Chicken (辣子鸡, “làzijī”) and the Boiled Fish Fillet in Oil (水煮鱼, “shuǐzhǔyú”). Not into this level of Sichuan spiciness? “Grandma’s Potstickers” can’t be beat.
