The Shanty is truly a culinary village with the aim to connect Wadsworth and the greater Chicago and Milwaukee areas to unique dining experiences focused on the true spirit of hospitality. As displayed on our west entrance, the Shanty was “built by the people.” Our building was locally sourced and locally constructed and our menu and events are developed with input from all our loyal patrons and dedicated staff. The Shanty as a meeting place for the community offers unique dining, an energetic bar scene, private events, off-site catering, cooking classes, guest chef dinner events, live theatre and performances, wine tastings, live-music on Friday & Saturday nights, and a one-of-a-kind family atmosphere. The food wasn’t bad, we had the steak and fish from the food network. The fish lacked flavor beyond the sauce, the steak was good but far from a $50 steak. The burgers are pretty great and priced well, along with the Goat cheese wonton! Our server Stephanie did an absolutely amazing job and her timing was perfect. If they dropped the price on the steaks and fish by 10-20% this place is well worth 4 stars.

The Shanty was the perfect spot for our girls lunch! We had a group of 12 (10 adults + 2 babies) and as you might expect with any large group – we had changes/requests in the days leading up to our visit. I worked with Bonnie to make the reservation and to make those adjustments, and she was super kind and gracious at every turn. On the day of our reservation, we arrived to find everything setup perfectly, and Joanna took fantastic care of us! She was so friendly, professional, and an all-around delight. Everyone loved their food and drinks – we will definitely be back!!

The food is decent. I had the cedar plank salmon. It came with garlic mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. The sauce on the fish itself was very sweet, honestly the only flavor that came through was brown sugar. I was a tad disappointed by this but the fish itself was good and fresh and cooked well. The potato’s did not have any garlic that I could really taste but were good either way. The veggies were okay, not seasoned at all,bland. The carrots were basically raw. They still had a crunchy center but carrots are carrots. I did have higher expectations for my meal with the price, it didn’t deliver the way I had wanted it to. The stuffed pepper soup that came with the meal was excellent! We also had the charcuterie board which I did not eat and calamari. The calamari was delicious, hot and crunchy and the board was good according to everyone who had it. Another small improvement is the pace of service. We arrived at 5pm and didn’t get our bill until 6:30. That is a tad longer than expected. We ordered everything within the first 15mins of the meal and there was only 4 adults. Two of us ordered cheeseburgers and then 2 fish dishes which does not take that long to make. I have worked in restaurants and fine dining and can say that is a tad long for a table time. Besides these things the experience was nice. I just expected more.

The food was good. The service was very slow but the wait staff was friendly. Prices were high(5 dinners 1 appetizer, & 8 cocktails were $500). The building was nice but it was noisy. Dress was pretty casual. Would I recommend it? If none of the above bothers you, then yes.

The service was great! The food was absolutely delicious! For an appetizer I enjoyed the New Zealand Mussels in their signature lemon garlic wine reduction served with garlic bread. For my main meal I enjoyed the Roasted Red Snapper Veracruz fillet roasted with tomato, extra virgin olive oil, mixed olives, garlic, onion, golden raisins and oregano served with side salad and baked potato. The 4 star rating is only because the ambience was a tad bit on the dark side of lighting in the area of the dining room in which I sat.
