This bustling restaurant drew me for 2 reasons. A) the history that it was the original restaurant in its same location since the village grew around it and B) because there is/was a great restaurant in Vancouver that was modeled after this one and I worked there for yrs during Uni!

I was looking for a spot to watch UGA play in the Rose Bowl when I stumbled across this gem! The apres ski atmosphere was festive, and the food was delicious! We got the steak tacos, Philly cheese steak, onion rings, and chicken tenders for the kids. The service was great, as well. 5 stars.

It’s a busy little place located in Aspen’s downtown shopping area with both indoor and outdoor sitting arrangements. We had 8 people in our group, so had to wait little bit (almost 30 mins) to get a table. It was super crowded and loud inside, we had to push through the people to get to our table at the back of the pub…but I guess that’s normal for a popular pub on a Saturday night.

Ended up going there twice during my visit because I liked the black bean burger so much. This vegetarian burger with guacamole is so good. The first time I got it with sweet potato fries which were okay and the second time I got it with the salad. However, I had forgotten to ask whether the salad was vegetarian, I just foolishly assumed a salad would be vegetarian but it ended up coming with bacon bits in it. It was my fault for not checking before ordering but still our waitress was nice enough to offer to bring me something else and then not charge us for the salad in the bill. Both times we were there we received friendly service.

I actually found a place to sit and watch the Astros make the World Series. My food was fantastic and reasonably priced. I’m not a big whiskey person but this place will easily change that! They did find me a very nice barrel aged gin that was smooth and gracefully served with a stone. Bartender was very nice and attentive couldn’t believe how he was able to handle the abundance of work while still making sure everyone at the bar was cared for. Learned what a shot ski was.. Interesting. Seems like a lot of work. Now if one person took all five shots on the ski then I’d be impressed. Otherwise just seems like a lot of work for the bartender haha really cool to be the oldest building in Aspen. The bar itself is a work of art. Drop in for just a minute even if you’re crunched for time it’s worth it I promise.

We were a group of 7 and we had a great time. Our server was really good and attentive. Food came out quick and hot. I had the Elk Bolognese pappardelle and it was really good. I’d get it again 🙂

Food was delicious and service was solid. Beer selection was limited and the seating and interior was a little dated. Overall a good experience and would go back.

Aside from being a historic place with a great and wild history (you can still see a bullet hole in the bar from the days of the old West) the Red Onion also serves great food. And their selection of Beers and Wines ain’t bad either.

Visited Red Onion before our visit to Maroon Bells, great food. Tried the French onion soup. A must try when you’re dining around.
