If you are looking for a memorable night then this is your place. Ensure that you book the reservation well in advance as this place is completed packed each time we have visited. Very popular among locals. The chef keeps changing the menu as per the season which is great.

Our server Veronica was wonderful. We ordered the Mezzi Rigatoni, Squid Ink Pasta, Chicken Liver & Foie Grasse Mousse, and 4 drinks total (pics not shown for all). Tables for 2 to dine-in along the back wall were a little close to each other for my liking (hitting butts against the tables) but the service and food were spectacular. Make sure to make a reservation, it’s just easier.

First off, a bit of history. When I wondered why so many 1-star reviews I was reminded of an incident where they used their rights as a private business to refuse service to a customer and received the wrath of the conservative zombies. Funny how it’s ok to take cases like that to the Supreme Court if it fits your “values” – but I digress.

Some of the best Italian food in DC, hands down. Reservations must be made a month in advance if you want ideal seating otherwise be prepared for a late night slot. Get the rigatoni. Order two if you can. You won’t regret it.

The pastas are always phenomenal – each dish bursting with incredible flavors and expertly cooked to perfection. The tomato bread was on point. Another standout was the roasted eggplant spread, a true palate-pleaser that left me wanting more. And let’s not forget the cocktails – they were top-notch. Ahhh so in love with the ambiance, staff and food of The Red Hen, great selection of wines and desserts. Unfortunately my rigatoni and whipped ricotta toast were a bit too salty for my liking but other than that my experience was a delight.
