The Penny Pub Menu – Bay Shore, NY

Type : Restaurant

Location : Bay Shore, NY

The Penny Pub has been a staple of Bay Shore dating back to the early 1900’s. Originally known as “The Veterans Bar” our little pub has been a home for almost a century to everyday people veterans, locals , visitors , family and friends .

In 1996 Al Lawrence purchased the pub, renovated and reopened it as the Half Penny Pub. A traditional neighborhood Irish Pub was born.

In 2015 The present ownership purchased the pub from The Lawrence Family. Some renovations and improvements were made including the addition of a kitchen, but the main goal was to add a fresh coat of paint while still keeping the original charm. Once complete, the bar was ready to embark on its next chapter as the new and improved “Penny Pub”.

This bar was a blast to visit we rolled in from Philadelphia with 12 guys after a local event we came up for ended.. bartenders and locals were friendly. We had great service and mixed drink were well made. Beer’s were ice cold and poured the way they should be.. they have a section in the back of the bar were we played pool, darts, huge jinga listened to great music.. We highly recommend this pub. This pub was clean with no sticky floors… A++

The penny pub is a great bar for any occasion and a great local experience! Their attentive staff and persistent customer service will draw me back in time and time again. Mike the bartender and George the bar back have made my experience wonderful! I look forward to my next visit at the penny pub

I was just visting NY and it was my first time at this place. I LOVED it! The pumpkin pie martini was amazing as was the food. Seems like anything on the menu is excellent. Bartender was all smiles and great service!

This first-time venue was perfect for an after work breather. I had a drink, I ordered food, and was brought a giant plate of absolute deliciousness. I asked about music, but the bartender on at the time didn’t happen to know how to work it. Cool. The oncoming bartender comes in and says the jukebox was out of order but says he has music he can play. Awesome. I ask to request a song, and he says, “No rap. I can’t play any rap.”, without even knowing what I’m asking for. I say, “It’s a clean song.” I was going to request Hall and Oates, “Private Eyes” (one of my favorite songs). Again, that bartender replies, “No.” I reply, “Really? Ok. Fiiine.”, turn around and proceed to walk back to my chair and drink. The just incoming bouncer then stops me, to tell me I need to calm down (which I am in no way, shape, or form out of sorts) or else I need to leave. I tried to explain to him the situation he misread, and he proceeded to tell me I was being disruptive to the patrons and then called the police. Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience after the original bartender, Mely, left. I give 5 stars to Mely and 5 stars to the cook. Mely was attentive to all the patrons in a timely fashion and was very friendly and outgoing. The cook, I didn’t catch her name, had misread a substitution but showed me something new that I had liked. They were absolutely wonderful and the food was just great. The night security staff could use some sort of extra training to better assist them in making proper decisions and how to have appropriate encounters with patrons.

First time ordering, great food. Order delivery off their website – cheaper than third party delivery services. One con? Smaller than I expected portions of the fried Mac & boneless wings.

The Dublin dip is one of the best steak sandwiches I’ve ever had in my life. Cool interior. Nice place for casual eating.

We ordered fish and chips with excitement, since the pub is located in a beautiful shore area. The menu said beer-battered. What came out was frozen fish that is fried. The flat rectangular frozen fish fried up. Absolutely disgusting for $16 worth of food. Do not recommend this place at all. I tried calling the manager because I do not like leaving bad reviews like this. Never got back from the manager. Completely ignored my complaint.
