The Onward Store is a great little restaurant about 30 minutes north of Vicksburg on Hwy 61 heading towards Rolling Fork. The prices are a little high, but the food was delicious. My wife and I got the shrimp dinner. We arrived a little late in the evening, and they were out baked potatoes. I was extremely happy with the service. Since they were out of certain foods, the hostess gave us a 10% coupon on our next visit. This is an old store I used to go to when I was a little kid (50+ years ago). It is the area when Teddy Roosevelt went bear.hunting. It’s where the Teddy bear first started. This visit is worth the extra time to make.

We stopped by for a lunch during a road trip. I ordered the pork chop with gravy and lima beans. It also came with a cornbread. The pork chop with gravy was so yummy. It reminded me of my hometown favorite. The bathroom was upgraded and incredibly clean. We enjoyed the farm and creek view. I would definitely return.

Like other reviews stated, we stopped because this was the first sign of a restroom. The restrooms are very clean. After reviewing the menu, we decided to stay and have lunch. My wife had the catfish basket and I had the Wednesday lunch which included; fried chicken, Mac n cheese and turnip greens. The food is amazing. The employees were the nicest we have delt with in some time. We will definitely stop here again. Very nice atmosphere, 100+ year old building.

Hidden gem in the middle of nowhere. Huge portions of great food and a history lesson while you wait. Home of the most famous hunt in history and the birthplace of the teddy bear.

I normally don’t leave reviews but with this one I have to. We were so excited to eat at the Onward store. We drove two hours to eat there because of the history. We did not get there until 5 pm and could only order off of the dinner menu which was very disappointing. We started with the redneck sampler ($15) which was suppose to have alligator but instead we are pretty sure it was sausages cut up and fired, Keebler crackers, cube cheese and pimiento cheese. When our meal arrived, I had ordered an onward burger and it was totally disgusting. My wife had ordered the red fish, which was good but it was so small not worth $27 at all. Her meal was supposed to come with a biscuit but the lady from the kitchen came out and asked her if she wanted the biscuit or not. When we went to pay the cashier was rude and acted like she didn’t even want to wait on us. Not worth the $62 we spent there at all. The only good thing was the sweet tea. Extremely disappointed after reading all the reviews before we went. We will not be back. I really don’t want to leave one star but I can not post unless I do

Stopped by this little place for the kids to use the restroom. One of the ladies let us sample some strawberry shortcake jelly. It was amazing! We bought it along with some peach jelly which is also great! If it had been a meal time we definitely would have stayed and ate, their menu looked very good- hand breaded chicken strips, etc. This will be a planned stop for the future!
