The Kitchen at the Imperial Menu – Chestertown, MD

Type : American restaurant

Location : Chestertown, MD

We have some very basic beliefs here at the Kitchen at the Imperial as to what kind of a restaurant we want to be. We believe the dining experience should be just that, an experience, where the atmosphere, service, and food all come together to make the entire dining moment one to enjoy and savor.

We believe that casual fine dining should provide an approachable and unpretentious atmosphere in which guests can enjoy cuisine that uses the best available ingredients possible, made fresh daily, in a manner that lets the ingredients be the star. Our goal is to build an environment in which our guests are equally comfortable stopping in for a quick cocktail in the Tavern after a day on the boat, bringing the entire family in for a low key mea

Visited here for brunch on a recent trip to the Eastern Shore. My husband and I both thought the food was fine, but agreed that while both of our dishes had excellent elements, they also both lacked something to pull it all together (he had the corned beef hash and I had the bagel and lox). The house cured salmon and corned beef were very good in our respective dishes, but the other elements were not memorable and lacked finesse. Servers were prompt and responsive, but to a person seemed like they did not want to be there. The dining room was nice in its design, and it could be a very elevated experience, but there were so many flies around our table it was distracting and impacted the experience.

Came here for a family and a second attempt at a decent crab cake dinner in Chestertown. The atmosphere and the decor was lovely and the service was quite nice. The appetizers were nice however throughout the menu there are very few vegan/vegetarian options so I wouldn’t recommend this place for a vegan/vegetarian. For an entree I split the combination of steak and the crab cakes with the mushroom sauce for the steak. The mushroom sauce was nice but lacked flavor and the steak was also under-seasoned. It looked like a perfect medium-rare, but it was very tough and chewy and I couldn’t entirely figure out why. The crab cakes were the reason we came to the restaurant, and though they tasted great, they were not crab cakes but more strings of fried crab meat as opposed to actually being finely cut and formed into a ball and deep fried. Overall a fine meal.

We were really disappointed with this dinner. We came for a bachelor/bachelorette party because this was the highest rated restaurant in the area. When the waitress asked who the bride and groom were, she looked at them and responded “okay” which isn’t a huge deal but just seemed strange and awkward. The food came out and all the steaks that were medium were overcooked, and the crab cakes had shells in them. The pasta dish was extremely small for $21 and the Caesar salads didn’t have Caesar dressing. We noticed other tables were getting rolls and we weren’t, after we asked for them we did receive them, but there wasn’t even enough for one per person. This place seemed like it caters to its locals and doesn’t like to give the same service to visitors from out of town.

The menu hear sounds very appealing but don’t fall for it. The owner is unprofessional to say the least. Besides drinking extra drinks brought to our table and spilling some on my husband and not even apologizing. The food tasted horrible. They serve better tasting for at an old folks home.

Started with the steak tar tar which was less than flavorful. Next they gave us two different menus so I couldn’t get the one thing I wanted which was lamb shank. So instead I choose the filet. My friend got the panko crusted catfish. All things that should be amazing. The fish came out over cooked. The steak was not only cooked incorrectly but had 0 flavor. The quality of the meat was also not good. It was stringy and I feel I could have pulled a better filet from the grocery store and for cheaper. We also tried the crab chowder which was sweet and underwhelming. And to top it off it took over an hour to get our main meals. The drinks were decent but also so small and took forever to get refills. Disappointing at best. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

My daughter took us to dinner on Monday night (for Mother’s Day)as she has always loved going here. It took us over 2 hours to get dinner! The food was very good but the service was awful. 1st it was 15 minutes before our waitress showed up. It took 1/2 hour for my daughter and husband to get a drink from the bar. Our orders were placed and we received our dinners. We had to stop another waitress to get more water and we were almost through eating when our waitress showed up to ask if everything was OK. So glad our steaks were because if not everything would of been cold. We finished dinner, had to ask another waitor for more water. When she finally came back we ordered drinks and dessert . One drink on the menu was unable to be made because they didn’t have all ingredients. They did get their drinks. After at least 15 minutes she returned and asked once again if we wanted dessert??? She was told we had already ordered. When she came back we were informed that only on of the desserts were available ( another table close to us had received the dessert that we ordered and they ordered 10 minutes after us). We decided not to have dessert at that point. My family finished their drinks and we lefted. I and my husband were quite disappointed especially since the bill was around $250 and we only had 1 appetizer. As for my husband and I we probably will not be returning, my daughter has never had such poor service in many visits. The food was excellent but as a 1st experience I was not happy. They did not appear that busy.

I ordered for pick up so I can’t speak to waitress staff but the hostess staff was great and very nice. I ordered the crab cakes and the crispy brussel sprouts. The crab cakes and sides tasted great, the potatoes were strong in sour creme but I like them! The brussel sprouts were a little oily but I didn’t mind, I figured that’s how they are roasted. I think the prices are definitely fair considering the economic climate. Overall great food and service, must visit!

Very quaint establishment in the center of historical Chestertown, MD, with indoor and outdoor seating. I would not bring children younger than 14 due to the cost and a limited menu. The flank steak topped with tarragon cream sauce was superb! The crabcake was well-made and very tasty. If you enjoy adult-natured libations, you will enjoy the offerings here…delicious! The service was spot on. If in the area, it is worth the visit. Bon appetit!
