This place is an absolute gem in Homer, AK. The owner couldn’t have been more friendly and kind – I wish I had gotten his name. He told us that his Mac and cheese was the best, and when we said we were Mac and cheese connoisseurs, he gave us a free sample to try. It was indeed some of the best I’ve ever had – perfectly cooked, with the perfect amount of cheese, some gentle spiciness, and lots of love cooked into it. I had the Honey Crisp corn dog, and it tasted like a perfect hot dog wrapped in a light, crispy honey doughnut (in the best possible way). It was amazing. My comrade had a hot dog with cheese sauce and chili sauce which was unique and delicious. If you like hot dogs, Mac and cheese, and really nice people, come on down to The Gourmet Hot Dog Shack in Homer and see the awesome guy whose name I forgot to get. You’ll leave full and happy and all the richer for having supported a fantastic local business.

My spouse and I had lunch here this last week and we both agree it is wonderful. The owner, James, seemed to truly care about our opinions and engaged in friendly conversation with us as we enjoyed our meal. We both had a hot dog and we shared a corn dog. I must say we would not have ordered the corn dog if we knew how filling the hot dog was! Definitely worth the money. All beef, no chemicals and fillers and the bread was fresh! I am a firm believer that a hot dog is an American classic but it shouldn’t be so hard on the stomach, this place gives you the best of both worlds. A great dog and a satisfied stomach, no belly upset at all, you can tell it really is a GOURMET hot dog!The owner expressed his excitement about staying open for our community even after the summer, something we all know doesn’t usually happen. So thank you James, for the friendly service and delicious food. We have been telling everyone about it. See you again soon.

The hot dogs were delicious, I had the beef dog with chili and Mac n cheese for the side. Service was awesome and the pricing is very fair. I definitely plan on going back there. If you haven’t tried it yet you should at least try it once, you’ll be surprised at how delicious these dogs are!

I was really excited to try this place because I thought it might be like Red Hot in Tacoma because it was called ‘gourmet.’ Unfortunately the hot dogs are just normal hot dogs with homemade bread. He charges for everything from relish to onions. This is the kind of hot dog you can make at home. I will definitely be excited to see if it turns in to something else and has some more interesting toppings. I would love to see something like a TJ dog or a Chicago dog or just something a bit more interesting.

Wife and got hotdogs. They are HUGE! The bun was fresh and homemade and held all the toppings in well. Very delicious. We also got yummy sides, baked beans and mac n cheese, also delicious. If I was craving a hotdog, I would go here again. Only thing I would says is grilled onions and chili beans.

We went before reading all of these review unfortunately. I thought, who could mess up a hot dog? Unfortunately, it took an hour, yes an hour!, to get two hot dogs. By that time, we were so hungry, we ate them pretty fast when we got back to where we were staying – It was raining and no where to sit. The bread was really hard, but again, I was starving… well, when I flipped over the roll, there was MOLD. So we threw the rest away. What a waste of $20+ dollars.
