The Frying Dutchman is so consistently good! They always have exciting specials and the menu staples are delicious! It’s an affordable meal and ingredients are always fresh. The calamari and Korean cheese corn dogs are amazing, as are the from scratch desserts (esp. the chocoflan). Fun atmosphere in the Public Market Building too!

Amazing fries! The Dutchman crew might have the best fries in the city; perfectly crispy without being overcooked and just a little salty. The toppings are delicious and unique, and I think adding onion technically makes a cone of fries a salad. Owners are both friendly and clearly know and care about their menu. I had the Specaal (sp?) and a few of the toppings they recommended on the side.

I came to The Frying Dutchman during the lunch rush and couldn’t decide between the salt & pepper calamari and the mapo poutine. Honestly though, the entire menu looked so creative and mouthwatering that it took me several minutes to narrow down what I wanted. Fresh Maine potatoes? Housemade sauces to go with everything like classic Dutch and Thai red curry mayos? Korean ramen cheese dogs? Sign me up. I was so indecisive that I ended up getting both dishes, and boy let me tell ya…

My wife and I had the BEST brunch at The Frying Dutchman in Monument Squares Public Market House last Sunday…. First off the creativity and execution is incredible. We got the Florentine eggs Benny fries and the Lavender Rose Dalgona Coffee ( which was unlike anything I’ve ever had before, and I’ve had lots of different types of coffee! ). Dining here was such a unique experience to taste this type of twist on eggs Benedict and a morning coffee. The flavors were OUT of this world!!! You NEED to try this restaurant. You can taste the passion in the food, the service is outstanding, and you get the best view of monument square from above. Highly recommend ! No where in Portland is offering this type of dining. What the heck are you waiting for ?! We will for sure be back monthly 🙂

The Dutch fries are perfectly crispy and soft on the inside, and the homemade sauces and onion on top are such a fresh compliment. The cannoli had the best coffee ice I’ve ever had on the inside. The service was so great and it’s amazing to see such capable and eager new faces on the Portland food scene.

Loved the Frying Dutchman, arrrrrrrh!!!!! Ha! They’re on the second floor of the Public Market. The gentleman operating the location is very kind. We assumed he is also the location owner. We had their Classic with Garlic Mayo, Curry Ketchup, and Gochujang Mayo, and Chopped Onions. Yum! The gentleman also kindly made me a hot coffee that was great. It was a small to-go cup but it was packed with flavor for a little guy. I felt plenty buzzing after drinking it. When you’re in the area, enjoy some items from all the vendors. They all have a lot to offer. I plan on trying the Jamaican stall, and the Pho stall next! Enjoy!

The BEST fried chicken I ever had. I’m sorry every other place in Portland that claims to have fried chicken. You pale in comparison to this small business that truly knows how to make a fried chicken. Pair it with a small (or regular, who am I to judge?!) mapo poutine and you’ll thank me later.

The Frying Dutchman is a delicious spot for quick bite when you’re in downtown Portland! Everything was very affordable for such an artisanal menu. We got the fried calamari, korean corn dog, and the chocolate flan for dessert. I can’t wait to go back for more!

In The Market on the 2nd floor is the Frying Dutchman. Wonderful food, great service. Shared table space but definitely recommend. We stopped here while walking the town. The French fries were wonderful. Avoid the tourist old Town and head here for lunch.
