The salad was tasty but lacked refinement, the butter lettuce had bad spots that should have been sorted out and the leaves should have bee broken down more bite sized. The Jambalaya was over the top, with lots of fantastic seafood.

I really enjoy going to see what is new on the Menu and trying the options. Roger and his team and very friendly and take great care of you. With the exception of the wings, my taste are quirky, every dish I have tried so far is exceptionally prepared, taste great and well presented. Roger takes great pride in doing his job in the kitchen and you can see he is passionate about what he does.

The food at County Seat rivals some of the best NYC restaurants – really! Chef Roger constantly creates unusual but incredibly tasty meals & apps. Best burgers & wings too! Sure to please any tastes – best find in the area

Actually probably one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in awhile. I can’t account for all the amenities and friendliness of the entire staff, but I went out for good food and I definitely got that. Didn’t expect it, just passed by and thought why not. Definitely am going back now. And I recommend it to anyone I know.

My boyfriend and I have been to this establishment once before, so we assumed that it was a safe choice again. When we arrived it was moderately busy. That being said; it took our waitress about five minutes to come greet us and ask for our drinks. While she arrived back to us quickly with our drinks we then had to wait about a half an hour for our appetizer. During this time our waitress informed us that the kitchen could not make the open-faced turkey that my boyfriend had ordered. We finished our appitizer by the time she came back to ask him what he wanted instead. We then had to wait another 45 minutes for our food which we ultimately got to-go. Our waitress was only apologetic to the fact that the kitchen could not make my boyfriend’s entree. Since we saw her walking around the dining room talking to other guests we did not see the reason for her apathetic and unapologetic attitude. Needless to say we will never be returning to this establishment which is a shame because the food is actually fantastic.

Waited so long for drinks, to order, for the food, for the check….we finally went to find someone to pay the bill. Food was brought to the table and No one checked to see if every thing was okay. My seafood fajitas which were over 20 bucks were dry, overcooked and missing ingredients. But , what could I do , no one was around to even see if my food was okay. The only reason it’s not one star is because my husband’s food was okay. Never again. 150$ meal and hideous service and food I could have cooked better myself.

After many years we finally made the trip from Hackettstown to Newton’s County Seat, why did we wait so long? Don’t let the ragtag exterior put you off, inside is a warm and welcoming friendly pub with exceptional food.

Having lived in Sussex County for 25 years, the County Seat was always one of those places that we thought looked kind of scary on the outside. Luckily the inside is much nicer. The food selection is very tempting and offered a fantastic variety of fare. Unfortunately service was extremely slow and although the food was tasty, it wasn’t so phenomenal to justify over an hour wait. Even desert and coffee was a 15 to 20 minute wait. So if you have plenty of time, try the County Seat, but if your on a time schedule, you will be late.
