Took my wife for her birthday and was awed at how beautiful it was! We ordered beer battered onion rings to start. Came with about 6 rings. My wife ordered chicken fried chicken, and I ordered THE Chophouse Burger. Both meats were underseasoned. I had fries that were seasoned with a very mild seasoning, and my wife had mashed potatoes. I think they had no seasoning. The Gravy was thick but under peppered for my taste or lacked any savory undertones. As I have explored in my culinary adventures, I seem to find that people are timid about bold flavors. Minus some tomato jam, my burger tasted like water because of all the greens and lack of salt. We had ordered a Salted Caramel Cheesecake for my wife’s birthday dessert, but our waitress misheard us and ended up giving us a Creme Brule. Which was fine because we okay with trying our second ever creme brule. It was half an inch thick and had a mild vanilla flavoring. Quite pricey for what we all got!

What an outstanding meal, service, and ambiance. Impressive classiness for a small town but not pretentious. You can feel the heart and authenticity of the owners in the made from scratch menu – with not too much on it and not too little – and the warm and real friendliness of the staff. Clearly focused on quality and experience first way ahead of making a buck – so obviously different than even the nicest chain restaurants. The chicken fried chicken was outstanding and the creamed gravy was as smooth and good as some of the nicest restaurants I have enjoyed in Europe. Immaculately clean. Death by chocolate cake was excellent. Green beans too – perfect- not over or under cooked – and seasoned – again, just right. Mashed potatoes too – on point. Congrats to the owners, staff, and chef. Thanks for the great experience- and affordable too.

I can’t stop ordering the chicken fried chicken. It is out of control in the very best way!!! The portion size is generous and if they have carrots; I always want those on the side. I also love to see mussels on the menu and their mussels are done really well, I only wish they came with some crusty bread instead of a pile of fries to soak up all the broth.

My husband and I ate here on a Friday evening. We weren’t sure what to expect, but it was an amazing meal! I had an authentic chicken fried steak and my husband had a blackened salmon salad. Delicious!

The Chophouse is a hidden gem in Mt. Vernon, TX. The building is old and beautiful. The restaurant is very clean and comfortable. We visited on a very busy Friday night and were served by Kaden L. who welcomed us, answered all of our questions about the menu and about the antique building. There were 3 in our party and we each ordered different steaks and sides. We also tried the truffle fries, pan seared scallops, and bread basket. Every single item was hot (with the exception of the salad), fresh, and delicious. Each item had a very distinct flavor and was well seasoned. It was truly an excellent experience. We can’t tell Kaden enough how we appreciated his patience with us and his excellent service despite having a restaurant packed with customers. Definitely one of our favorite steak places to date. Thanks for a great experience! We hope to be back in the area to visit again!

This steakhouse was great AND in such a small town with lots of history! We enjoyed, the staff, the atmosphere, the cocktails and the food! The smoked old fashioned was awesome! The filet and pork chop were great as well as the fried asparagus and truffle fries. The owner and GM were super nice along with their staff. Very attentive! We will be back soon!

We have dined at The Chophouse every time we’ve visited Mt. Vernon. GREAT staff, delicious food and the atmosphere is very nice too. We held our grandson’s high school graduation celebration there over Memorial Weekend. It was a large group but the staff attended to our every need very quickly. You can’t go wrong dining at this upscale restaurant. (Owners are wonderful too!!!)
