Food and service are fabulous. The haddock burgers are excellent with a healthy portion of haddock. The crab roll got high marks as well. We ordered a crab pie just to try it…and it was delicious…more like a crab quiche, you can cut it and share. The only negative is that there is not enough shaded space to sit and enjoy your food. Best to go on a cooler or cloudy day. Prices were very reasonable. We will definitely go back.

The Captain’s Catch is a tiny little takeout right on the Town Dock nested between where the Training Ship State of Maine docks and the historic town of Castine. I think it really adds both character and flavor to the Waterfront area of this quintessential coastal Maine community. I visited this place several times in the summer of 2018 before deciding on a 5 star rating for this eatery. And I’m heading back this year! Here’s some reasons why:

Great, fresh seafood, burgers, salads, shakes and much more. Not cheap, but very fresh seafood and beautiful views of the bay in Castine.

We found Castine by just driving around and visited the Dyce Head lighthouse. This food stop ended up being some of our favorite food in Maine!

Overall, my family thought the food was mediocre. The fish (taco) was overly breaded. The bang bang shrimp sauce was decent, but again, just squeezed atop breaded shrimp. Our kids enjoyed eating the ice cream, but it wasn’t their favorite ice cream in Maine. We were in agreement that the best part about eating here was the outdoor dining along the water.

Beautiful spot for lunch right on the water. Not all the tables have shade, but most had umbrellas. Food was really good.

I’m not a fan of seafood but I swore I would try lobster in Maine. I am now definitely a fan of this place’s lobster roll. So very delicious! It also was refreshing how nice the people were.

Quick and friendly service. Delicious lobster rolls and the bang bang shrimp tacos are excellent, too. Make sure to snag a table with a view of the bay.
