The Capital Dog Menu – Lake Leelanau, MI

Type : Restaurant

Location : Lake Leelanau, MI

Capital Dog was established in May 2022 after refurbishing Lake Leelanau’s original fire station. Co-owners Kevin and Sue Burns (you might know them as the owners of Baabaazuzu!) had a mission to create a place for families to eat in Leelanau County that’s economical and quick. After years of planning, they opened Capital Dog: a boutique Northern Michigan restaurant serving small-batch slow pork, a variety of hot dogs, plus ice cream and other summertime sweet treats that people of all ages love.

This was a pleasant surprise! I looked for a place we could grab a quick lunch during our wine tasting trip that offered vegan food and just assumed it would be a generic hot dog place. I was pleasantly surprised! They didn’t have a ton of vegan options but the veggie burger was delicious! They also went out of their way to clarify my order and make sure they didn’t put anything on it it wasn’t supposed to have! And they were pretty busy! The wait wasn’t very long even though they were busy, they were attentive, and friendly. My friend ordered the turkey club and said it was really good. Their fries are also totally worth it! They also have shakes which looked really yummy. Definitely a great place to grab a quick and tasty lunch and it won’t break the bank!

My son and I stopped in for a casual lunch and were very impressed by our experience there. Plenty of staff made it an efficient trip. The entire restaurant was very clean and organized. Great menu selection for a very affordable price. We had a great lunch and great desserts. We didn’t realize it until after, but we went out back to the patio and wished we had seen that from the beginning. Very nice new furniture and a very well-kept yard and flowers made for a very peaceful and clean scenery. An overall great experience. Looking forward to coming back again.

Good dogs, fries, and malts! Quaint interior with booths and large outside seating area. Good spot for boatloads of people.

What a nice little spot for a quick – or sweet – bite! There’s approximately a ba-zillion different types of hot dogs; pork – carnitas, sliders; beer (I think wine); sodas; chips; and a variety of ice cream: soft-serve, hard, shakes, flurries, etc… Service was notable. Having worked in the service industry it always stands out when an employee greets me as I’m walking in the front door. Ditto when they’re articulate and make eye contact. (Bonus: when they’re doing so and it’s their last day before heading back to college. Says a lot about the employees Capital Dog hires and/or the business itself.)

Great food, fast polite service, and super convenient for this traveling through the narrows of Leelanau. Plan to visit many more times in the future.

Very friendly staff and nice atmosphere. I was excited to be able to get a coney so close to home until I bit into it. It was just a regular frank. No pop of the natural casing like a coney should have, especially at that price. Maybe they’ll get authentic dogs soon.

Love this local family-owned and operated restaurant. Right by the Narrows so you can rock and grab a coney or ice cream. We came twice in one day! The flurries are generous with toppings too – can’t beat it!
