This is a cool spot. I was visiting the corn palace and wanted to find somewhere near by to have a quick bite to eat. I am so glad I found The Back 40 Taphouse. I got Jerk Chicken sandwich… one of the best sandwiches I’ve had. The spicy from the jalapeño balanced by the sweet from the pineapple…. so good!

The restaurant is huge, with lots of tables, you can decide either indoor or outdoor seating. The food was good, and we would love to try more of their menu someday. The only downside was that the food almost took an hour and it wasn’t even busy. Maybe it was just a bad day at the kitchen, but we’ll definitely try to stop by again. Also, i didn’t notice until later that the minimum tip was 25%. I guess there’s a “custom tip,” but we were used to the 20% minimum. Just a heads up.

Loved the decor and the menu. I could eat here for a week straight and still have more things to try! The reason it’s getting 4 stars for food and atmosphere was because my husband wasn’t in love with his experience. The doors were open which he doesn’t like because of the warm temperatures and bugs, which is why we sit inside. He also had to chop his own salad and didn’t love that either.

Great place to go. Enjoyed outdoor seating, garlic cheese balls basket and each had a delicious salad. Glad we picked there. Tho seemed there was one waitress and bartender working. Waited longer than would be normally acceptable for everything. Still would recommend if you’re in Mitchell, SD

Cute place to visit if you’ve never been in the area. Suitable for larger groups. The atmosphere is enjoyable while eating. Food is average and served quickly. Not the best for small children but manageable if experienced. Must try at least once

Delicious food, friendly attentive staff. We stopped on our way west because the menu looked like the most fun in town and it didn’t disappoint! It was quick service granted we got there shortly after they opened. If I’m going through Mitchell again I’ll definitely stop there with friends with bigger appetites, large portions!

The food was good and the restaurant was very busy. We got a table for two and were told the wait would be 20 minutes. After an hour we inquired about our table and seated right away. They possibly forgot to check the roster to see who else needed to be seated. Overall it was just an alright experience.

We got there and was told it would be a 20 minute wait and it seemed reasonable because it appeared to be packed. We were called and led to a dining room that was empty. Tables and menus were sticky when we arrived. Server was nice and explained the menu and took drink orders. My wife and I both ordered custom burgers and fries. Unfortunately, the food was terrible. The meat tasted old and the burgers are very small and the fries were cold. Both of our orders were made incorrectly. We had to send my wife’s order back because the burger was smothered in ranch dressing and bacon that she didn’t order. We sent the food back and it came back wrong again with bacon still on the burger. My burger came out with BBQ sauce on it I didn’t ask for and just the overall experience was just bad – especially the food. Try somewhere else in town first. This was an end to a week long road trip and so it was a bad way to end it. We asked for boxes and the bill. 60 dollars with tip and we left. On the way out I explained this to the manager and she seemed to care less so I figured I’d come here and just get the word out. 7/29/23 7:00 p.m. We drove to Culver’s instead and it worked out for the nights dinner there.
