Was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and the food. We came here in the middle of the day on Sunday and it was perfect. Great staff, recommended good wine. The warm bread with honey butter was so heavenly, ohhhhhh! Great French dishes, cooked to perfection, lovely flavors, good quality meat and fresh greens. Loved it! So worth the stop!

Awesome patio with a French flair, this restaurant has a lot of character, and it makes you think of a French Brasserie, I could compare the vibe to the early days Le Diplomate in DC. Food tasted fresh and delicious, paired with a crisp Sancerre, I could not ask for more attentive service. Dimitry has extensive wine knowledge, and I made a new friend! Will definitely be back!

My favorite evening out is dining at the bar of an upscale restaurant. The American Bar hit every note perfectly. I started with a well crafted Old Fashioned, followed by Chicken Liver Mousse. I ordered the beef Prix Fixe with salad, flank steak and Pom frites. A glass of white accompanied the salad, followed by a delicious glass of red with the entree. Dessert is included and the glam was amazing. The manager and staff were attentive and engaging, as was the chef and owner who joined me at the bar towards the end of the night. I found my tribe in Winchester.

Very good overall. This was my first time at The American Bar. Service was very good. For food I started with a cheese plate, picked 3 cheeses for $6 each. They were delicious cheeses with perfect accompaniments (olives, honey, jam, cornichons, etc). I originally ordered the flat iron steak frites, they were out so I opted for the ribeye. The steak was very good quality and seasoned well, but very undercooked (ordered med-rare served blue rare) I don’t mind a rare steak so I opted to eat it anyway without complaints. The Au Poivre sauce was well made and tasted great. My biggest complaint were the fries were sub-par. I wouldn’t have opted for fries as a side for steak anyway, but as the only option is steak frites I expected the fries would be incredible. They were typical hand cut somewhat soggy fries.

My husband picked up a to-go order this evening. We ordered Truffle Fries, the Prime Burger and my husband ordered Steak Tartare. The fries were darker than desired. Prime Burger tasted good- the burger patty itself was smaller in ratio to the toppings and bun. The Steak/Beef Tartare was a ok portion and according to my husband had good flavor. This was our first experience and we ordered food right before they closed. Husband said staff were very nice and that it has new management/chef. It was an ok experience, we may try again to see if it will improve in the future. We weren’t wowed, but it wasn’t necessary bad either.

Delicious, simply delicious. Highly recommended, the best place in old town Winchester. Everything was absolutely amazing: food, wine, atmosphere, and customer service.

Absurd experience. We were the only table along with two people at bar. One bartender. One host. Two servers. We were handed menus and no water or drink orders after more than 10 minutes. Server stopped briefly to tell us he would get to us. He then promptly spent almost 10 minutes ringing in past tickets while rest of staff chatted at bar. We walked out. Just not a place that is welcoming. At a certain point, the food doesn’t matter. We went to the Italian/Greek place next door and had a great, energetic and tasty experience.

We went here and were so surprised that it is actually a French Restaurant. It was such an unexpected surprise and pleasure. The restaurant has a nice ambiance. French music was playing which was so nice. When they brought the warm bread to the table with some delicious honey butter I knew we were going to have a good meal. I ordered the chicken and my husband ordered the steak and we shared. Everything was perfectly prepared and delicious. I think they should change the name to somehow let people know it’s a French restaurant. We almost didn’t go there but would have gone immediately had we realized it was a French Restaurant. I thought the prices were fair . Maybe a little high but worth it.

The steaks were good. Everything else though… They no longer do the prix fixe menu! Apparently we were given an old menu and they didn’t have any current menus. We ordered it (from the menu we were given!), and when the steaks came we were like: are the salads coming? No, but if you want a salad we can start on that. like, what? We were extremely confused for most of this. Our waiter also dropped off the steaks, said she’s getting us steak knives, and then completely forgot about us. We tracked down someone else so we could dig in. On a 90 degree day they had the front door open, letting in heat and flies. The music kept coming from different speakers, then silence, then the host played a song on the piano (which was nice), then silence again. weird. I made sure to ask if the desserts were still included after the salads weren’t and they neglected to tell us. Just know that you will order what you think is the prix fixe menu, but it’s really $45 for only a plate of steak and fries. What a bait and switch! If it were only one thing that would be ok, but everything together made this experience just so bizarre that I’m still processing it. The atmosphere feels like kids play-acting at what they think fine dining should be like.
