FLY IN THE FOOD!!!

Food just isn’t the same anymore. Moved away, but I would still come to eat here several times a year when I was in town. Now that I live in the area again, Szechuan was top on my list to go back to. Has been my favorite for many, many years. Ordered same things, but very different – not much flavor. The hot and sour used to be the best I have ever tried, but now is gelatinous, just like the cheap buffets. Rice had an awful, flavor. Roast pork was chewy while vegetables in the dish were crunchy and raw. No garlic, ginger or other great flavors the food USED to have. Service was good, but not as friendly as the old crew. I hope the new owners take to heart the reviews here, and might try to adapt the recipes back to the way they were. I hope.

The food was great, loved the Wonton soup, the steamed dumplings, and the Lo Mein has a great flavor ! Scallop and beef was good as well. Tons of options, great for kids, and fantastic staff. Would 100% recommend for families and anyone really. The kids loved the smoothies as well.

Got dinner here for the first time tonight. Orange chicken was weird and the liquid was sticky, it tasted nothing like orange just sweet. Noodles basic spaghetti noodles, egg roll tasted weird too… for $27 I expected more. Disappointed.

We have eaten there many times and the food has always been good. Maybe they have a new cook. Last night the egg rolls were just cabbage, almost impossible to even chew, tough and stringy. We chose not to complain and ate them. Then comes out my personal favorite, egg foo young. It looked like scrambled eggs prepared in grease, so disgusted that I showed it to the ,very sweet waitress, and asked her to have them prepare me another new one. If you don’t know, egg foo young is served in 3 omelet type patties. The new dish looked great, the top 2 patties were well cooked but had almost no pork, I just figured we were being punished and when we hit the bottom patty there was nothing but a thin layer of egg floating in dirty grease. The waitress said she was sorry we didn’t like our food. I asked her if there was a new cook and she said no, but I’m not sure she would have said otherwise. We live 30 miles from this establishment, not sure we will ever take the chance again.

We used to love this place! Hadn’t been there in a while. What happened to the egg rolls? Today’s egg rolls at lunch were tiny compared to the old ones and were mushy. I think that they must have be bought from somewhere and just heated up. They are nothing like the ones from the past which was always a big draw to go here. On top of that our server was refusing to give us a separate small plates to eat the egg rolls. Quite a big commotion to start a meal. She finally agreed to bring us each a small plate to eat the egg roll from after we started to leave. Will probably be some time until we go back there.

This place is literally my life. I’ll be been going there for as long as I’ve been alive, as well as my mother and her mother. Every single year we go there for my birthday, and I never regret it. Their food is AMAZING, the prices are good, and the service is wonderful. One year, one particular employee, after watching my brother scarf down enough for 5 men, told my brother he “ate like a horse”

Szechuan Garden League City has maintained the best tasting Chinese food south of the 610 loop for over 20 yrs. I’ve had the occasional lunch and dinner here since the late ’90’s and the quality was just as great now as then, if not even better! Not a large restaurant but very clean and the wait staff is so very helpful. All the menu items are delicious and are very generous portions, whether lunch or dinner items. This is not a buffet. If you like General Tso’s chicken then I do not believe you can find better elsewhere.

I used to love this place 25 years ago, and decided to go back during my visit to league city. First of all, the lo mein was very poor quality. The shrimp dish was okay.

The egg drop soup was awesome and their egg rolls are the best I’ve had, I only docked a start because the staff is so attentive it’s border line annoying. The lunch menu is reasonably priced and the servings are quite large. I’ll definitely be returning, so glad I found this hidden gem.
