An excellent high end Szechuan place near Bryant park. Century eggs a good starter, treated so there is minimal ammonia smell. Tea duck and cumin lamb very authentic and well plated. Eggplant roasted so tender with delicate knife work like ratatouille. Only issue is they recently decided to present the blood and tripe stew bowl in a rectangular wooden stand, which is fine by itself. However whomever made the choice to place the lid at an angle in a cutout on the stand… it now resembles a toilet. You are serving blood and tripe stew out of a toilet bowl.

Incredible authentic Chinese cuisine for a reasonable price. The interior was beautiful and the food tasted amazing. My favorites of the night were the spicy shredded chicken with soba noodles and the beef rice cakes. The spicy eggplants and pork belly were also delicious.

I loved the place it was simply lovely to eat there. The restaurant was beautiful, decorated very well with Chinese and Asian decor. The food was also excellent. I ordered beef with scallions and light miso on the lunch special. It came with steamed rice and soup or soda. The beef was delicious, salty but not too much and the miso was the perfect touch, making everything else pop. My mom ordered the hot and sour soup, which she said was absolutely delicious. The only downside was the beef had a little too much oil, but I solved it by dumping my rice and letting it absorb the oil and sauce.

The front desk older asian lady with short brown hair and dressed in pajamas in the reception is extremely disrespectful. She’s possibly borderline racist to black people, asking them show me you have money. And is also really rude on the phone.

Some of the best Szechuan in the city. (No, I don’t get American Chinese food at specialty places like this.)

I like the food and the lighting in the restaurant. Some dish are a little salty for my taste but still bearable. Also the place is never too crowded so it is nice if you want a quiet time without too much of noise pollution. Service is ok. They can talk nicer to the customers. Price is quite fair for the food quality. Also, there are many other Chinese restaurants around so you can take your pick but this one is worth visiting when you are in town, I think.

Szechuan Gourmet on 39th street has such a nice ambiance, it was a surprise! It is a casual fancy Chinese decor, which I much appreciated. The menus is extensive, and there the more basic Chinese dishes all the way to more adventurous ones. I started off with the fried eggplant, which I didn’t care for that much in terms of flavor, but got my appetite going. The star of the meal was the mapo tofu, my main course. The flavors are very rich, and the tofu was heavenly creamy. It is a very strong meal, and it made me a little queasy, but I recognize that is due to me not being accustomed to the szechuan sauce, so if you are sensitive (which I’m usually not), try something less rich in flavors. But if you are not, please get it. The other guest at the table got a fried chicken with chilies, and I ate some too, and it was perfect, in seasoning, in crunchiness. Very good! For dessert, we got pumpkin cakes, which were good, but not really necessary after the excellent main courses. I am looking forward to come back and try out more things!

This is definitely one of the best authentic Szechuan restaurant in Manhattan! The portion is so generous and the price is quite reasonable especially thinking of the location. Most importantly, the flavor is so good! You can literally try any dish in the menu, you will not be disappointed.

I heard this place had become more expensive and reduced the dish portions. But honestly it’s still pretty good! One of my favorite szechuanese restaurants.

I don’t recommend the spicy garlic fried eggplant because the flour wrap is too thick… But other meat dishes are all very savory and authentic! Will come back to try more!
