They have a wide variety of skewers to choose from, including chicken, beef, pork, and vegetables. The skewers are all grilled to perfection and have a delicious smoky flavor.

“Grilled skewer bento” is what made me want to try out this place. Various combos of skewers come with a choice of appetizer (I chose fried chicken), salad with choice of dressing (in my case, Miso) and rice options (my plain rice did come with an okra and pickled eggplant) and everything is counter service. If you want miso soup, it is a $1.50 add on. Limited seating but at 11:45, it was easy to get a table for 4. Everything was fresh and tasty but the rice is mushy and was my least favorite part of the meal.

Grabbed some takeout from here since it was walking distance to my hotel and I’m glad I did. Everything I had was very good, but the nasu agebitashi (marinated cold eggplant) was absolutely delicious. The grilled saba in my bento was also notably good, and the various yakitori skewers were all above average, as well. The soboro rice is worth the $2 upcharge, as well. It was pretty good and plentiful. The only thing I’d mention otherwise is it’s a tad pricy for takeout, but with the current 20% discount for online orders, it was a great deal. I may even eat there again this evening.

I’m a fan of SUMIYA YAKITORI in Sunnyvale. I do however like this concept…a sister restaurant… Well more like a little sister…lol. I hope they make it…the last few restaurants in this location didn’t survive. This shopping center got hit hard during the pandemic…I remember struggling to find parking during lunch or dinner hours. Now there is plenty of parking, I reckon most of the surrounding companies are employing the hybrid work model… therefore the food traffic is not the same as before. Sumiya Bento is a fast casual venue, unlike it’s older sibling SUMIYA YAKITORI. Food is tasty and portions are a good size, but it does take some time to make. I think our food took about 10-15 min to come out and we were the first people in the restaurant. All the combos are custom…pick and choose type of menu. My biggest complaint is the the strong dislike for the all plastic packaging.

Cool new yakitori/skewer bento spot. I like the chicken yakitori and the grilled saba. So tasty and there is plenty of seating inside.

Awesome Bentos to go. Can’t go wrong with A, B, C or Delux, Umami in every bite and it brought me back to Japan for that moment. I preferred rice with egg (Ontama) and Nasu (eggplant) was deliciously soft and tasty. All the salad dressings were good but I preferred citrus.

We ordered skewer C and deluxe bento. This was our fifth or sixth visits! Really like their skewers and combinations with side dishes. Recommend to try the rice with egg!!

Excited that Sumiya finally came to Milpitas. We used to go to the one in Santa Clara! The food quality is as good as the one in the original store! However, it would be great if they provide more variety of bentos with different skewers combination or the a la carte options. But overall it was great! Highly recommend it!

Found a small piece of metal wire in my udon, pulled it out of my mouth. Almost swallowed it thinking it was part of the seaweed.
