You walk up to the Deck which is by the way a great spot to grab a seat and relax while enjoying some Food & some Local Beers, there’s lots of seating.

Such a great place! Only a handful of miles outside of Black Mountain over the continental divide but it feels like a hundred miles away in the country. It’s such an easy drive.

I had the heart bowl and my wife had the shrimp and grits. Both of us had the sangria. The food and drink were great. Music was nice.

Delicious pub food prepared uniquely. We spotted the place on a drive down Hwy 9 toward Black Mountain and made a point to have lunch there on the following day (a Friday). Not disappointed.

What a fun find! Tucked away on Hwy 9 just a little ways out from Black Mountain, The Straightaway Cafe and Pub is the perfect stop for that lazy weekend drive. A very good beer selection, good food, and friendly service with music on the weekends. Just a fun place to take a break.

My husband and I passed by this place several times on our vacation and decided to stop in today after a long hike. We were so glad we did. The food was excellent and the service was friendly and very helpful. I ordered the black bean burger with potato salad and it was amazing. My husband ordered the double burger and fries and loved his just as much. They are dog friendly and even have a dog patty on the menu. We also ordered dessert which was a brownie with what tasted like homemade ice cream. The perfect treat after a day spent climbing a mountain!! We would definitely eat there again.

Stopped by for the first time today and was so happy I did. Simple but delicious food, the kindness and welcoming energy is unmistakable. They do live music and have a bonfire pit and a dog named Lucy. Absolutely an appalachian energy you can’t manufacture. My daughter chased frogs and i had a beer. Everyone was kind and i felt at home. I will ABSOLUTELY BE BACK.

Totally remodeled inside! They have just reopened for 2022. The inside space is wide open, there are two restrooms side by side now and the walls don’t have the funky vibe and bling. Guests order at the bar and sit where they like. It’s very clean looking, almost austere. We’ve been coming here since 2010 and it’s way different now. They have a new cook and some of our favorites are gone, sadly. (No more spicy burger, fried fish or sweet potato fries or wedges). But with the new ordering system, we got our food fast! My hubby said his hamburger was quite bland and smaller. However, my chicken fingers were very good-crisp batter and tasty. Had a side of rice and beans, which was just ok, not a lot of flavor. They still have a super outdoor space with covered and open seating on decks, with pretty pastoral views. Also an outdoor music stage, dance floor, volleyball sand court, disc golf and fire pit. They have great live music in warm weather. The parking lot is still small and fills up quickly on weekends. As always, there’s lots of room for kids to play and run outside. We noticed they now have a covered dumpster which should stop Big Jake the Bear from his famous raiding runs. We are hoping the food will improve back to 5 stars soon because we love this neighborhood place. Please support them and bring your kids and dogs.

My husband and I hadn’t been here since our wedding day seven years ago (just due to a busy life), so the other day while we were on our rare out about adventure we stopped by and I have to tell you- the food was DELICIOUS!!! If you haven’t been to this hidden gem, give it a try, you’re in for a treat
