The 5 stars in an understatement. The service, friendly and attentive. The menu unique but relatable. The only problem with looking at the menu is that everything sounds incredible! But the food… the food was extraordinary. Fresh, seasoned perfectly, and attention to balance in flavor and textures. You couldn’t find mouth happiness like this in a Michelin star restaurant! I can’t wait to return!!!

I’ve heard many good things about the steel penny so I wanted to check it out. I went off peak around 3 pm. Service was average. I know the Detroit style pizza is cooked to a caramelized state. Mine was not amber brown, but cooked to a black bottom. Flavor was good, but tasted overdone. I will return to give them another chance because I could taste the possibility

Met a friend here for lunch at her suggestion for my 1st time & I’ll def be back. The bacon on my BLAT sandwich was literally the thickest bacon I’ve ever seen & the bread was so good, I asked the waitress if they sold it by the loaf (they don’t). The waitress did let us know that they were even busier than usual & it might be a bit of our wait for the food, but I felt the wait was normal & when a restaurant is busy, that means it’s good!

Steep penny is such a fantastic hidden gem. This is our go-to treat yourself breakfast/latte spot. The bread is always so tasty, and my honey says the tomatoes are always the best he gets anywhere! Breakfast sandwiches use hard boiled eggs instead of fried, but it’s something I didn’t know I’d absolutely LOVE, and now I use hard boiled at home too!

Steel Penny is one of my favorite places, no matter what time of day it is. A cinnamon and brown sugar oat milk latte and a sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich is my happy place. The breakfast sandwiches are served on an herbed focaccia that’s excellent all on it’s own. I finally got around to trying their Detroit style pizza, and I’m so glad I did. The Compactor, with sausage, ricotta, basil, and roasted garlic, was delicious. It’s clear that they put care and love into everything they make at Steel Penny!

Best breakfast sandwich. Great coffee. Love everything about this place… And next to a scrap metal yard just adds to the charm!

Off the beaten path but what a wonderful meal I had at the Steel Penny. The place is literally next to a scrap metal facility on one side and a concrete plant on the other. The interior vibe is definitely industrial with sheet metal walls and garage doors but it all works. You can order when you walk in or opt for table service. They do serve beer, but I stopped in during the week for lunch so I didn’t partake. I had their pizza which was excellent, the crust nice and crispy. Our waitress was very nice, service could have been a touch quicker but all in all a very pleasant meal, will be eating here again. There was plenty of seating, plus I noticed some folks just hanging out with their laptops so it’s part coffee house too.

Wow, what a cool find!! Not a place you would expect, or where to expect it but it’s so independent and different, feels like a local place for local people you find in the city. Fun pizza options with lots of beer options. Just a fun place with lovely staff and something a bit different.
