Whereas some soul food restaurants give little sides, the sides at Southpaw Soul Kitchen were very gracious. Portions were big, toppling over the cup Cornbread was perfectly baked, moist and fluffy. Food was all that! And the red velvet cake was excellent. 10/10

I tried this place about a month ago after finding them on Google while searching for soul food in Indy. I held off on writing a review, because my Catfish Dinner was inedible that day. It came with Spaghetti which was edible, but I had to throw the catfish away.

Dinner…. 10/10 I had pork chops. Mac and cheese, and greens. I was a Lil disappointed in my dessert though. The sweet potato pie. (The flavor was marvelous, the slice of dessert, I felt cheated though. it look like the last slice and it wasn’t cut properly. I litterally had the the last size. I didn’t see it until i got home. It barely fitted in my hand. I ordered sweet pot. And peach cobbler. Haven’t tried the peach cobbler yet. I got it for later.

The photo/video may not due justice since my camera sucked, but the food was delicious and tasted HOMEMADE! I had salmon croquettes, Mac n cheese, yellow rice( had bell pepper, whole broccoli cuts and well seasoned) and mashed potatoes. My son had the perch fish with greens and Mac and my sis had the pot roast meal with green beans. Everything was great! All meals came with cornbread and it was sweet but not too sweet. small dine in area so did not dine in but food was still after my 20 min drive home.

Best salmon croquettes patties in the city. All the food they sell is good, you taste nothing but flavor in every bite. They stay busy so expect a little bit of a wait to get your food.

Smothered pork chop dinner was good but dessert which was peach cobbler was way off the mark. Dough was not done and tasted raw and uncooked. Not good. Portion was way too small for the price that was paid. Need to do much better. This review was originally sent as an email from my visit on June 4, 2023.

OMGawd!!!! I’ve been following them since the food truck during covid. The food is still amazing, the atmosphere is still very welcoming, and the prices are on point for the portion size and flavor. I’ll be back, and you should stop in too!!

I let the owner/operator choose my meal for me and it did not disappoint. I had the fried catfish, cabbage, and fries. I was iffy when he suggested the cabbage, but went with it and I’m glad I did! It was so well-seasoned and absolutely delicious. The catfish was perfectly breaded and fried and the fries were great too. I will definitely be back!

This is the place you go and order food- only for them to give you the sides they want to. Literally second time I went and the sides were wrong. The first time the fried potatoes were undercooked to where it was like biting into an apple. However it’s a clean environment though. I’ll just have them give me what sides they deem I’m worthy of next time lol cause what I wanted didn’t matter ♀️
