Southbank Original Barbecue is located right along the beautiful Fox River in downtown Yorkville. We offer meaty favorites such as pulled pork, wings, drummies, ribs, and so much more. All of our BBQ is wood-cooked and homemade, served to order and delicious every time.
Our restaurant doesn’t use any fryers. Nothing is deep fried and each item off of our menu is made fresh. We also make our own spice rubs, sauces, and side dishes – the unique options you have to choose from separates us from the competition! We’re open late every night of the week and look forward to serving you.

Initially came for a takeout order but ended up eating at their patio since it was so nice. right on the river with great views. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Great vibes.

Becca at the bar is our absolute favorite on Sundays! So personable and sweet. Josh was the cook today and we had the BEST broasted chicken sandwiches! Would suggest any one of the varieties. I had the cluck and oink (pictured) and my boyfriend got the garlic chicken breast which he raved about. Great bloodys and great food. Our favorite Sunday lunch spot!

I was up in the area for Memorial Day Weekend and I was truly impressed with the service and the food. We had an amazing server, the food came out quickly, hot, and tasty. I had a half rack and I thought the ribs were quite good despite other reviewers saying they were either cold, tough, or both. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The only thing I didn’t care for were the cheesy potatoes, they were a bit too salty for me, but everything else was very good. We were there during a dog adoption event and met the owner as well, she was very friendly and you could tell she really cares about the place and its customers.

Cool outside venue. Super busy on a Saturday night, not enough bartenders or certain types of alcohol. Three deep wait at the bar. Bathrooms had no soap or towels. It was River Fest. Would go back but NOT during the festival.

Very disappointing! This place has so much potential to be a badass bbq joint with a beautiful outdoor atmosphere but it just fell short on every level. Only positives were being outside on a gorgeous spring night and the shiner on tap. Waited forever for our food. Our 2 four year olds and baby were getting tired after over almost 2 hours of waiting. Finally we asked for it to be to-go but decided to just eat there because it was already late and we were all starving. Pulled pork sandwich was cold and tasteless. Cole slaw tasted weird, and cheesy potatoes were basically frozen hashbrowns baked with cheese. Collard greens were OK. Suggestion: do some research on highly rated BBQ joints and dig a little deeper into how to make it better. Not sure if we’ll ever go back.

Nice place to take the whole family. Clean and friendly atmosphere. I had the jerk chicken sandwich that was cooked perfectly. Not spicy at all but a little sweet with the cheesy potatoes. The quesadillas were an appetizer and very large. Large portions with good prices.

On the plus side the outdoor eating area is really nice. You are basically 60 feet from the Fox river and the atmosphere is easy and laid back. Our server was wonderful. Unfortunately it was downhill from there. There were 4 of us and we were in the mood to try a few dishes, with a few drinks. The big pretzel was good. The rib tips were cold, greasy and inedible. Seriously, you could not gnaw them enough to swallow them. We ordered the Moo & Oink, the Pulled Pork, the barbecue beef and one person ordered the Fried chicken. Sides included coleslaw (pretty good), cheesy potatoes (a sticky, cold, tasteless mess), Mac and cheese (good) and baked beans (I’m pretty sure they were Campbells). All of the sandwiches were cold, tough and tasteless. Chicken was really good. $120 dollars later, with a $30 tip for our really nice server, and we threw all that food away.

Great service but the food not so much. Ribs were dry and burnt, same with the burnt ends, also their sauces are too runny and way too sweet. Way too expensive for what we got. Will not be going back and will not recommend to anyone.
