Pretty bad presentation of the food which is pretty tasteless. They claim to be Yunnan but nothing like the authentic Yunnan guoqiao noodle soup, for instance they add tones of carrots to the soho which is disgusting…. A no go place…

The rice with the copper pot has been the best one I’ve had during the whole New York trip! It is so hard to find a Yunnan Restaurant in the US and this one is really good!! Although it might be too spicy comparing to what I’ve eaten before. No doubt it is a good choice!

We were in the neighborhood of NYU and decided to give South of The Clouds a try since it became very chilly outside and they served soup and claypot.

Pretty well known among NYU student for the Yunnan cuisine around the campus. Came for a quick dinner with choice of rice noodle, and I would say it’s satisfying for the taste and price. Portion of the meal is a little bit small, overall a delightful experience.

Overall it’s good. Have been to the place for several times, sometimes the food quality is not stable enough – too salty or the noodle too firm. But it’s a place that I will revisit occasionally.

I couldn’t describe how I love this restaurant.

Rarely can a restaurant serve dishes from different Chinese regions while ensuring each dish is authentic and honest. South of the Cloud is such a restaurant. The Lanzhou Beef Noodle has the broth that only hours of preparation can produce, the right chew of the noodle that only come from hand pulling. The Yunnan rice noodles have exceptionally flavorful broth with a range of rich ingredients ranging from beef to dark-skin chicken, ulminating in a bowl of noodle soup you can’t find anywhere outside of China, until now. Special shout out to the waiter Roy who went above and beyond, asking me whether my food was enough after seeing how quickly I finished my bowl of noodle. Take your partner here. They would love it.

2.2.18 – I was extremely skeptical going into this spot, but I was very surprised by The Signature Crossing The Bridge noodles, the Tofu Rice Noodles, and the Ghost Chicken. The soup base for the signature dish was light and full of flavor, but it lost its impact as it cooled down. The ingredients were spot on and fresh. The rice noodles was equally as good and full of flavor. I appreciated the texture if the rice noodle because is dead relatively thick and carried the flavors with it. The Ghost Chicken was moist and slightly spicy. Definitely legitimate food.

Super authentic Yunnan cuisine that I have been searching for for so long! Yunnan-style cooking hasn’t been popularized much in the US so I was so excited to find this spot that tasted just like my childhood. We ordered the little pot noodles, the mala beef noodles, and the dry rice noodles, and everything tasted delicious – so flavorful, spicy, and umami. The portions are also very generous, so come hungry!! We ate so fast that I only got one photo
