Portions are on the smaller side. Chips are salted well but a bit tough The cheese dip is pretty good as well as the salsas. The burrito was good. The shredded cheese on top was a good touch. Would definitely come back and try the tacos. My wife said they were delicious on the corn tortilla not the flour.

A sense of community is evident as soon as you walk through the door. Nearly fifty incredible tequilas available, & as many menu options! From the silvery-reflective ceiling inviting you to lose yourself in a dozen-or-so margarita/cocktail options, to the wine & beer options, you’ll be hard-pressed to choose a favourite aspect of Sonora Cocina. Rustic wood floors, bright pictures & accent walls, & an open-style seating area marry contemporary ambience with upscale-causal Mexican dining. A massive plus for me were the gender-neutral washrooms. They are also wheelchair accessible. If you want a genuine interaction with owners & staff, look no further than this instant downtown classic. (Pssst! All margs contain 2 oz of tequila!) Oh, & did I mention that the food is OUT OF THIS WORLD?!

My family and I were passing through Asheville for the evening and came here for dinner. The margaritas are excellent, and all staff members were very nice and more than accommodating. They have a large variety of salsas and presentation of the food was also on point. However, the food overall had little to no flavor. The fish taco was beyond bland with a very tough shell, the beans and rice had no seasoning, and the chips were too hard and lacked any taste. We were really let down since so many others raved about the food, but at least there were some positives that made this dining experience not a total waste.

Came Saturday for an early dinner. Pork belly and shrimp tacos were good as were the tostados. Chips and salsa were really solid. Great service. Would go back and recommend it for anyone looking for a Mexican spot in the area

Arrived around 6:30 on a Friday and it wasn’t too busy! Business picked up shortly after we ordered. Our server was great and attentive. The margaritas were tasty and the chips and salsa were great too! We loved the mango habanero salsa the most. They had a few vegetarian options. We ordered the fried avocado tacos and the shrimp tacos, both of which were stuffed to the brim and super delicious. This place does not skimp on filling!! Our friend ordered the tostadas which also looked great. Nice little spot to enjoy Mexican fare.

Highly recommend! We sat at the bar during busy dinner hours and Shelby was a super efficient and friendly bar tender. No long wait times and the staff worked together like a well oiled machine. The food was great! The chips and queso were the best I’ve ever had. The margaritas were delicious and I loved my fish tacos with calabacitas. Everything was fresh and made with obviously high quality ingredients. All around great experience! Great location in downtown. Looking forward to my next visit.

Perfect place to eat after a long day of hiking and exploring. I loved the potato and avocado tacos! One thing that really disappointed us was the quality of the $13 Palomas–they were basically shots of strong tequila with a splash of grapefruit concentrate. Ultimately, the food was incredible–but the cocktails weren’t worth the money.

Mexican kitchen without the usual colourful decor. Instead a gray interior and basic furnishings. The food was similarly subdued… apparently unsalted pintos, and enchiladas with quite mild cheese and in a plain savoury sauce.

Food here was amazing! Everything was super fresh and flavorful. I cannot speak highly enough of my steak burrito, super flavorful and the steak was very tender! Would highly recommend this place if you are in Asheville and looking for delicious Mexican food and refreshing margaritas. Don’t forget to order the chips and queso, it is so good! Great service as well!

I was actually surprised . First of all I got concerned when i noticed there was no Mexicans on the kitchen or any place in the restaurant but then the food was better than expected, I’m not sure I will consider it as authentic but as a Mexican I can tell you was a really good experience the flavors were so good and I liked this tex mex mix better than any other I had tried in the US before.
