This meal was so good that there wasn’t a crumb left… And we weren’t even hungry! Loaded baked potato and collard greens were awesome. I had to take a picture of our empty plates. We devoured all of it.

Whenever we are in the mountains we like to eat at local restaurants not chain restaurants. Today was our first time here and WE LOVED IT! There was a lot of us and the waitress got all of our orders right and they were so nice!! We will definitely be back.

The flavor is ok. The smoke flavor is there for sure, but I feel like the texture is way off… almost like they thaw them in water. The “”cheese curds”” lol are basically just mozzarella sticks chopped into smaller chunks, breaded frozen, and fried. I’m a huge cheese buff, so I promise you will understand what im saying if you LOVE and KNOW cheese. It’s not a bad place if it’s the only thing in town. It got our attention on the route home. One strange thing to me was that they called the wings “Daytona style,” which was fried wings tossed in the sauce of your choice and then baked. Not bad, just a strange thing to call that method due to the fact that it’s a mountainous region.. … don’t really fit the region it’s in, I guess. Being a Florida girl, it was strange to me. Overall, great joint if they fix the texture issue and maybe tweak those so-called cheese curds. 4 stars.

On 8/8/23 I was on Lake James fishing with family and we decided I would go grab food from Smokey Que’s and bring it back to the boat for lunch. I drive about 15 minutes from the dock to the restaurant and order 2 BBQ Fries, a pound of pulled pork, 2 buns and a gallon of sweet tea for my family and I ordered myself a pulled pork plate with fries and corn nuggets. Somewhere in translation my plate got lost. When I returned to the boat and we all pulled out the to go trays we realized I did not have anything to eat. So I called the restaurant and talked to the manager. I wanted to know if I had gotten charged for it or not. If I was charged I was just gonna requested a refund for my tray only. But if I wasn’t charged for it I was fine but big deal everyone makes mistakes. But the manager I was speaking with turns out he was the owner! And this amazing man offered to drive over to the boat dock where we were to bring me lunch. I told him we didn’t have much cash but I could pay for it over the phone (I wasn’t charged in the original order that’s why it wasn’t in the bag). He refused any money, we found $10 in cash on the boat but this man refused to take it. I was floored and amazed at his kindness. Needless to say from now on when we’re on the lake someone is going to Smokey Que’s for our lunch. Thank you so much to the owner for making sure we were all fed and were able to stay on the lake for 15 hours.

We are traveling through the area and decided it was time for BBQ. What a great decision. Everything was excellent, from the BBQ to the sides to the service. A special shout out to the Hushpuppies. Hands down the best I’ve ever had. Did I mention the shape, bite sized and oblong, kudos to whoever decided on this design. Our server did an excellent job with checking in on us. If you are in Marion NC you have to stop by.

In my opinion this place has the best fall off the bones, great tasting ribs I have ever had. Great brisket, hush puppies are always fresh and they have a salad bar now. Service staff is wonderful. My wife and I love this place. Great job Caleb!
