This is my second time ever coming here but I must say it’s very eloquent and has a sophistication to it that I highly enjoy. Dignified in nature and is a hidden gem, as there isn’t much publicity on this place. So that is another thing I enjoy. The waiters and waitresses are great as well. Also best of luck to my fellow farmer trying to get his way into the medical field.

After being given a tour of the restaurant the previous day, we were promised a particular booth that would accommodate our group & allow everyone who flew in for this event to talk with each other.

Great experience for me, sadly not for the hard working staff, this lady comes in with a group, and instantly becomes disrespectful, something about not being able to sit where they would like. The other employees managed to work something out for this “Karen”, but she continued to be rude the rest of the night. She threw off the vibes of the restaurant just, because she couldn’t sit down where they prepared. The rest of the evening the other staff, and my friend ran around trying to catch up. She even threatening to right a bad review. I had to come on here, and say that I had a wonderful experience, and not let this lady ruin this restaurant’s reputation, because she thought she was the center of attention.

One of two things happened here. Either we were brought the wrong food (the table next to us ordered the same dishes), or their kitchen does not know how to cook. At first our 2nd course was taken to the wrong table, no big deal they replaced it in like 5 minutes. But the main course was steak and was brought out undercooked.

My sister and I visited Slate on June 22, 2023 and we had the most wonderful experience *and* server….Michael. He was very personal, professional and just so nice! Our food was exceptional. We are Southern girls (“hey y’all!”) from North Carolina and we received “Southern Hospitality” ~ Traverse City style ❤️

A group of us made reservations for my birthday. We were really excited to try Slate cause we’re foodies and haven’t been there yet. When we got there we were served water and we asked to order drinks because we were thirsty and wanted to settle in. Our server said no because he was busy and then he didn’t come back for 25 minutes. That would have been fine had he been communicative and friendly. When we got our drinks delivered to our table we asked to order because we were all hungry. He again said no because he had other tables to take care of. We contemplated leaving but figured if we went somewhere else we ran the risk of waiting even longer and some of us were on a time budget. The table next to us got an extra menu and we wanted to know what it was for, apparently you can also order from sorellina. Would have been nice to know! When we finally got to order, another 20 minutes after we had already waited for our drinks, we were asked multiple times, “do you want this out before dinner or with dinner” we all said bring things out as they’re ready cause we want to eat. We’d been there for an hour already. Some time later we finally got all but one order all at once. We were not impressed. The pasta from Slate had under cooked noodles and over cooked chicken, I got the filet and it was underwhelming (mashed, a few slivers of asparagus on top, with the filet sitting on top of that), the Alfredo from sorellina was amazing, the tuna was… scary, and the lamb was the best out of all the meat options we ordered. We also ordered three meals for takeout and those were acceptable to the recipient. They did take the tuna off the bill as well as the Alfredo because it came out way after everyone else’s. Still, we spent over $350. The only person who acknowledged we were there for a special occasion was the pianist. I’m very grateful to him. We won’t come here again though, service was worse than the food and the food wasn’t great.

I was very excited to try the menu and overall, I’d never pick this restaurant again for a full dinner. Pros: We were seated right away, Seafood Chowder, Crab Cakes, and Truffle Fries. Cons: There was a very loud brass band playing for almost the entire two hours we were there, very long wait for drinks and food, lack of server attention, and over seasoned food. The good was amazing and the bad was terrible. I don’t mind paying $50 for a steak if it tastes great or even good.

Another restaurant week visit and our first time to Slate. Everyone enjoyed their food! My filet was tender and flavorful. The service was excellent. Morgan, our server was pleasant and personable. The piano player was excellent and a great touch to our meal only downside was we were seated at a great window table just inside the door brrrr every time that door opened.
