BBQ Restaurant serving high-end BBQ, located in Rockwall Texas on The Harbor. Josh Deaton started off smoking BBQ in his backyard, a couple of his friends enjoyed his BBQ so much they told him to start participating in BBQ Competitions. Josh fell in love with smoking meats and competing and won several 1ST place awards. Along the way, he was able to team up with Jeff Cassar to open their very own BBQ restaurant, SIDEWAYS BBQ. Sideways BBQ is filled with entertainment throughout the week, including live music, perfect view of Lake Ray Hubbard, and cornhole boards out on the patio. Family-Friendly, dog-friendly, and filled with lots of great tasting BBQ, along with some pretty unique cocktail recipes.

It was a Monday, so they didn’t have the full menu. The server suggested a quesadilla, which I got, and my husband did the nachos. I thought the quesadilla was on point. The sauce it comes with is amazing, though they do give you some sour cream as well. I was really impressed. The person that was our server was okay and didn’t really come around to refill drinks. Got a water, and it tasted like dirt. but the draft beer was on point. I would go back. We sat outside, and it was a great day, though you heard the music from the restaurant next door more than the restaurant we were at.

I had a great time here! There was a live band who I really enjoyed. Kailey our server was beyond awesome. Great personality, extremely helpful with recommendations and accommodating. I ordered the The Gut Tickler which I was so tickled by the name. They were out of baked potatoes so I opted for fries/wedges AND IT WAS SO GOOD! I couldn’t finish the whole meal. I also ordered the Tropical Sunset drink which also water very good. She informed of the different events throughout the week. I would definitely recommend & return.

Food quality, definitely lacked what was said on the menu. The brisket was only prepared moist and lacked flavor. The sausage link was good with a slight spice. The Mac and cheese noodles were a little undercooked but tasted good. The fried okra wasn’t bad but the taste was slightly off. The waiter was very helpful and respectful/polite. Regarding the taste of the dessert, banana pudding is not the best for flavor or texture. Not a place I care for but might be good for others.

Great BBQ and service! My first visit and Kailey took the time to educate me on the menu and all the great BBQ they have to offer. Tried the Brisket, Fried Pork Ribs and Jalapeno Sausage. Brisket and Ribs were excellent and sausage was above average. Good value for what you get and will definitely go back.

I order Mac n cheese that was supposed to been creamy and it come out in a glob and cold. Stuck all together and not appetizing at all. Who can tell that’s Mac n cheese??!?

First off, waitresses are fast and on it. Where this place is lacking is the speed of the meat slicers, super slow cutting constantly stopping to chat and getting distracted. Burnt ends were not burnt ends, more like oven baked pork. Brisket was good when we finally got it, a step up from a chain. Turkey was good and peppery. Pulled pork was prepared well as well.

7/26 – lunch date with the wifey. Arrived about 11:30 and was excited to get some burnt ends. Burnt ends weren’t ready, told it would be ~ 30 minutes or so. I would expect the entire menu to be ready when the doors open but hey, that’s just me. Brisket and ribs were dry almost like they ran the fire too hot and the meat smoked too fast. For the money, would recommend to drive into Dallas and eat at the Pecan Lodge or Terry Blacks.

The rating is based on the atmosphere. Let me say this first- the food was good. It is some REAL good BBQ. Had the brisket and pulled pork and it was spot on. The atmosphere was horrible. Came in to the waitresses making bead bracelets. So my family interrupted that. Then I saw one of the cooks vapid at the bar as he took his break. There was a ton of sitting around and service was slow given the fact there was only my family and one other. My waitress was nice, although the socializing got in the way of her job. Twice have I been to this location and twice had it been the biggest disappointment. The food came out cold. Sent back and still came back cold. The attentiveness of the staff was lack luster and honestly overall idk how people say this place is good with some of the most mediocre overpriced BBQ I’ve ever had. Save the pickles and slaw. Save your dollars. Avoid coming here for BBQ, there is places way better. I don’t recommend this place to anyone unless you want to wait for extended periods of time to get cold food that isn’t even your order.
