Went there with the family about a week ago and had a really good experience. My only complaint from that day is that the service was pretty slow.. But they were slammed and only had 2 servers.

Amazing food. Super authentic Sichuan flavors and extremely fast service in person.

I had the vegetable lo mein with added tofu. I wasn’t crazy about it, mostly because it wasn’t very flavorful. I did like all the eggs and vegetables, which I felt were in good proportions, but I wouldn’t get it again because it wasn’t very flavorful.

We saw good reviews and tried it. My youngest is special needs and was having a hard time. There were no other customers there and he wasn’t hurting anyone. But the server called him a ‘cry baby’ then said as we left ‘it’s OK your parents just spoil you.’

Consistent, yummy dishes. If you order an American dish, the quality will be consistent but maybe not the same as dishes at places who focus on making those dishes. I love their eggplant, tofu, veggie, and dry fish dishes. They are so delicious. The environment is great and service is exceptional! My friends live pupu platter and çrab/cream cheese appetizers. This is my go to Cinese restaurant in this area.

I really struggled over whether to rate Sichuan River as 4 stars or 5. The food was good but none of the dishes we ordered turned out to be thing we are dying to come back and order again. The service was attentive but problematic. Quantities were huge — but there comes a point where it’s too much.

I ordered the eggplant with garlic sauce, extra spicy. Flavor was good and lots of garlic but not spicy enough and the eggplant was overcooked.

Great authentic szechuan food. We got the fried szechuan chicken which was just the right spice. Dan Dan noodles were the best we’ve had. Wontons had a big of a thick skin but the milk tea and eggplant were phenomenal

I don’t follow ‘foodies’ much anymore. But this is one of those places I bet most of them overlook. It’s not new. It’s not ‘pan’-anything, or something-‘fusion.’ I wouldn’t call it a hole in the wall, but it’s not fancy. It’s like going to a family dinner, if your family is from central China. I’ve been coming here since it was Tien Jin. My Mandarin professor recommended it. She said it was one of only a few shops in Austin with an unofficial authentic Chinese menu. It was a ‘hidden’ menu, like the one at In-N-Out Burger. You had to know about it and specifically ask for it. It’s changed a little. These days the ‘authentic’ dishes are on the regular menu. I had Twice-Cooked Pork for the first time on this visit: a stir-fry of thinly-sliced buttery-tender pork belly and vegetables in red chili oil. I highly recommend it. Like almost everything I’ve ever had here, except for one kidney dish. But that wasn’t their fault. I’m just not a fan of pork kidney. Check it out if you like ‘authentic’ and are in South Austin.
