I’m happy SHU came to Avon! Now we don’t have to go all the way to West Hartford. This is Szechuan Chinese food which is much different from the typical American Chinese food. It’s a little more expensive, but the quality is worth it and it’s so good. It has an authentic taste to it. I highly recommend the dan dan mei and chengdu dumplings – ours were cooked through. If you like a lot of sauce and spicy + savory food, you’ll like SHU!

We had the kung pao chicken bc we’re basic but it was delicious. Just the right amount of peppercorns. The fried rice was flavorful and I personally loved the wontons. The broth they are served in is so flavorful but light. Highly recommend! Also the staff was so kind and gentle 🙂

The people seemed nice, though I was shocked that two vegetable fried rices, two vegetable lomeins, and two fried scallion orders came out to $80. I was willing to let that side, if the food was good. To begin with, the serving sizes were half what every other Chinese food restaurant is normally. On top of that, the food was greasy and unappealing. I have never left such a terrible review. I’m disappointed it had to be for Shu Express.

The greatest Chinese food you will ever taste. ITS NOT YOUR TYPICAL CHINESE FOOD STORE. It’s pricier than your avg Chinese take out, but the food is ONE MILLION times better than any fast food joint you’ll go to. Try to think outside your comfort zone of dino chicken nuggies and get something exotic!

Tried this place because the wife loves Shu in West Hartford, got some Dan Dan Noodles and Chengdu Dumplings. Noodles were ok, dumplings were definitely un/undercooked pork. Already ate 3 of them before discovering they were raw so praying I don’t get sick.

Some reviewers shared their experience of raw dumplings, may be the managers saw this and told their cooks to NEVER do this again, at all cost…Because the beef dumplings I got were very very overcooked, more charred black than anything else.

Very very tasty. I’ve been the the Shu location in Hartford and it’s just as good. I’m not sure if the Hartford location has the Dan Dan noodles but this location does. You will not be let down.

Amazing. Fair prices, fair portions. Great flavor. Authentic for sure. If you love numbing spice, try the fish fillet in hot and spicy bowl, and the dry pot delight.

Some acquaintances recommended SHU in West Hartford for really good authentic Chinese food. When I looked them up, I was surprised to see that they have recently opened up an express location in Avon that carries just the most popular options. This saves me a lot of time in traffic as I don’t have to go over the mountain to get authentic Chinese food.
