OKAY YUM!!! Wish I could give Shewat 800 stars!! This is the best neighborhood Ethiopian spot in all of North Oakland. I sometimes lay in bed just dreaming of the Abby’s Veggie Platter because it’s THAT.GOOD. No joke. See pix below of my loved one’s full face smiles. Grinning ear to ear!! We also brought friends who hadn’t tried Ethiopian food before and they LOVED IT!! The highest reviews. Get the honey ginger tea also 🙂

Absolutely delicious food, and such friendly and welcoming owners! Try the lamb alicha, probably the tastiest Ethiopian dish I’ve had in the US!

Good vegetarian options. I tried the abbeys vegetarian combo and baklava. The combo had 4 of the standard items one would get in a veggie Ethiopian combo (2 red and one yellow lentil, side made of cabbage carrot potato), some salad and also a dish made of okra which I really liked. The red lentils were really good. I also liked the baklava. The injera itself was a little sourer than what I would ideally like but overall great food.

We ate here over a year ago passing through and I am still dreaming of the next time I get to stop and eat here. Enough to come back to leave a review months later. Simple, amazing food. My foodie kid AND my picky kid BOTH loved the dinner. Absolutely delicious!

I cannot believe how delicious this food is!!! I order the meat combo which included a chicken dish a beef dish and lentils. It was perfectly spiced. Just so tasty. Nice portion size too. Best Ethiopian or Eritrean food I have had in the Bay area!

Say what? Nah it it Shewhat. This restaurant cafe is gonna have u slapping the table saying how much you vibing with this Injera and meat. Because my gosh guy you gonna be looooving the crispy lamb! Highly recommend grabbing some along with the beef. Whoooeeee that stuff be more fire than California during fire season. Very much recommend y’all try it out. The milk tea taste like cinnamon horchata tho. And the staff be friendly as heck!

This is by far the absolute best Ethiopian food I have ever had. I could eat the injera, shiro, lentils, and mushroom tibsy literally everyday and be happy. This is our new go to for sure. Lovely outdoor seating and super friendly staff. Thanks so much!!

Nice Ethiopian food and very good service. The food is little spicy, but kids really like it. Definitely we will go again to try different dishes.

Great food, friendly and helpful staff. We reserved through Google Maps which ended up working out and they were responsive. No wait on a Saturday evening at 6:30PM. Would recommend the veggies (lentils were awesome) and the sambusas.

This was our first time dining in at Shewhat and it was a really amazing experience. I usually go to Enssaro in Oakland with my family but this is our new favorite spot for authentic Ethiopian cuisine. The owner Abi was an amazing host, she made us feel welcomed and comfortable. Highly highly recommend them for homemade style cooked food. Wish this business the best.
