A must try while visiting Emerald Isle.

This place was so good! It has limited hours and days but we were able to nab it before we departed home from our trip. The brisket was amazing, the sausage was out of this world, and the pulled pork is always a hit in NC (especially with their sauce). The staff was so friendly and the food was so dang good. 100% would be back here again for the sausage alone!

Perhaps it’s just too much hype but we found all the food just average BBQ. My wife and I shared the 3 meat plate with 1 rib, a tablespoon or 2 of pulled pork and a sausage link with collards and slaw for $24. It was fine for us to share but glad we were not hungry.

Shepard Barbecue is a hidden gem on Emerald Isle. If you’re looking for delicious, high-quality food in a casual restaurant environment, this is your place. This is refreshing compared to the usual overpriced island restaurants that give you very little mediocre food at a big price. We love supporting small businesses. The customer service is top-notch, and we appreciate the welcoming vibe. Don’t miss out on this gem.

Drove from the Charlotte area just to try his Que… & I must say they didn’t disappoint me… smoked pork, brisket, turkey, ribs & sausage. Sides Pimento mac and collards. It’s one of the best smoked porks I’ve had as served; a really good brisket, turkey & sausage, moist tender. An excellent dry rub on the ribs, tender, a good bite. If you’re near your lucky, if you’re far, it’s worth the drive.

The vinegar sauce was great. Pulled pork was our favorite meat, probably the best we’ve had. Favorite side was the potato salad. Staff was very friendly!

I used to really love the bbq here, but the last 3 times I’m getting as much fat as meat in the pulled pork. The collard greens also used to taste better than today – they are a healthier version instead of the southern style collards that I feel like they used to be. The baked beans are fabulous. Also, I need to remember to request bbq sauce on the pulled pork next time, because it’s a bit dry without some extra sauce. The potato salad is good too, not the best I’ve ever had, but definitely worth trying. Lastly, not a fan of their coleslaw. If you like the regular type of coleslaw, that’s what they have… I wish it was more flavorful made with less green, more red cabbage and more vinegar. This one is more watery mayonnaise (traditional type). I do love their pickled red onions. Usually I’d rate this place 4 stars, but too much fat in the pork, no bbq sauce & collards, I’d give 1 star 🙁

WOW! This place is incredible! Yes, you have to get there before open to get your food, but once you taste it, you know why- the brisket melts in your mouth and the ribs fall off the bone. The pit beans and street corn are delicious and I’m truly regretting not getting one of everything off the menu- it was just that good! We will absolutely be coming back each time we visit, the food was amazing, the staff were so polite and we really enjoyed sitting down as a family and having such an enjoyable lunch. This is a gem and you’re missing out if you don’t try it!

Outstanding barbecue. Not much parking but plenty of outdoor seating. Park across the street if you have to. Expect a line. Sides were as good as the meats, especially the slaw and the street corn.

We saw all the good reviews and had to try it. Awesome! That pulled pork was delicious. Forget the BBQ sauce. It’s amazing on its own. You gotta have it with collard greens. Operating hours are limited, so you can’t mess around.
