A popular choice in the high traffic space. The yellow oven really catches my eyes. I got there and saw the various different kinds of Tempura of vegetables and proteins. The onion, shitake ,fishcake and egg tempura all taste awesome. While the eggplant one tastes too oily. Might try for Seimen next time.

Udon is pre-cooked. They don’t cook it in front of you anymore, probably to prevent from long waiting line. But we came in 3:30pm and there is no line. They take cards since Covid and the card machine used to give you options for tips or not. However they probably figure not everyone is tipping, they now print out a “paper” without signature column but need you to tip them, which is very interesting.

Wanted some hot soup noodles for dinner so we went to Sanuki Seimen Mugimaru at Mitzuwa Costa Mesa. There was a line when we arrived. We waited for 10 mins to place our order. We ordered a Katsu Curry Udon, a Zaru Udon and a Kake Udon. At the cashier we added some tempura (eggplant, sweet potato, lotus root, shinsito and pumpkin) to go with our upon. Total price was at $28. Very reasonable priced for the

The tempura was perfectly fresh and warm, hot off the oil boil crispy. The udon noodles were the perfect texture. It just tasted soo fresh. Compared to other places, other places overcook udon the texture usually is long slime. But this place made it wayyy better. I usually am not the best udon fan but this one changed my mind. Worth it. I had one with egg and they worked a Miracle with how wonderfully it was.

Good Udon soup. The OBB special is great and comes with a concentrated beef flavored sauce, which I like. The #3 Beef Udon is good with a nice broth, but the beef is a little tough. The #8 Pork Udon is good. The #5 Chicken Udon is ok, it’s a clear broth, not creamy, and the chicken has a smoked flavor which I don’t care for. I like the serve yourself a la carte assorted tempura options.

Line can get a little out of hand but well worth the wait. Portions are reasonable for the price but you will end up spending more once you add a few pieces of tempura. Gave it 4 stars because seating in the food court can be a pain. You’ll walk around looking for a spot and it can take a few minutes. You’ll have a better time if one person gets in line while the other person hunts down a table. Good spot overall though.

Excellent udon, super plump jumbo tempura shrimp with perfect batter thickness that’s tasty and not too greasy. Be advised of long lines on weekends and running out of food near closing time. Best tempura in the OC, and great value. Highly recommended. Go during weekdays if possible to avoid crowds.

Came here since it was inside of a Mitsuwa marketplace and it was so convenient.

6/20/21: I was craving tempura so that’s all I ordered. I loved the selection. The tempura was nicely fried and good flavor, unfortunately as it sits it loses its crunch so mine had started already to become soft and chewy.
