When I first walked in the atmosphere displayed a rustic Oregon trail feel to it. Featuring many blown up art paintings of early settlers in the area. There was also a heavy native american feel with tapestries on ladders and status of and hand drawn photos of native american men and women. There was some local kc cheif banners hanging and to my understanding the new owners put that up. While i enjoy someone showing home team support it complelty clashed with the decor and felt taccy. Overall though i still give the decor a 9 out of 10 as the atmosphere was quite relaxing.

Inattentive service, they were sweet, but only came to deliver food and drinks. Never returned to warm up coffee or check on us. Food was marginal. Eggs Benedict were bland. Hash browns were mushy mixed with charred areas. It was barely 8 AM and the coffee tasted like it came last night’s pot, lukewarm and bitter. I was quite surprised at all the 5 star reviews as our experience here was quite different.

I first tried this place years ago, and it wasn’t very good. We found ourselves in the area and decided to try it again. It was really good! Just the way breakfast should be. I especially liked their French toast. I don’t think they use sour dough for it, so it was really good. Or if they do, they hide the taste well. Lots of other flavors in the French toast that made it classic, but interesting and delicious. The eggs were cooked well, the hashbrowns weren’t greasy, and the bacon was ok. The service was friendly and we were well taken care of. It wasn’t the cheapest way to have breakfast, but we will be back for the occasional treat. I think there might be new owners since the last time I’ve been there as it did a total 180⁰ and is now worth a visit.

This is a quaint little breakfast place, but the service is good and the food is great! I’ve had the blacksmith breakfast, the breakfast burrito, pancakes, and waffles (not all at the same time!) And they were all delish! The service has been good when we’ve been there. The only improvement I can think of is better coffee, but I am admittedly a coffee snob.

A great spot to get a meal that reminds you of grandma’s cooking. I love that they leave a pitcher of water at your table. Not many places offer the same service and quality of this cafe.

A really nice and friendly place. Its a shame that the hours are so restricted. Got a fried steak and eggs with biscuits and gravy for 11.92. A great deal. The biscuits and gravy were good, although the gravy was a little too peppery. The eggs over easy were done fine. The fried steak was really good. I had to take an extra pic of the inside because I couldn’t belive it was so tasty. Good work and good service.

I would say that this has been our favorite breakfast spot for close to 20 years. This was our first visit since ownership change sometime in the latter half of 2022. The first clue was there weren’t many cars in the parking lot. The dining room was about a third full. We were surprised as usually all the tables are full. I will say that service and staff were very friendly and attentative. However, when we got our food, the change was apparent. Original menu was still in place, but the quality was subpar. Eggs were served on cold plates, and although served up quickly, were cold. Hashbrowns were not cooked correctly on an oiled flattop…no golden brown outside or tender inside. They were stirred up and had scorch spots which rendered them dry and flavorless. The bacon was not the same brand and overly smoky as if a fake smoke flavor was added. We ordered rye toast and got marble rye instead. I would not have ordered if I knew that. Instead of the standard 2 slices, only got 1. Chicken fried steak was passable, but the sausage gravy lacked that sausage and peppery flavor. The coffee was bitter. The standard carafes of lemon water on the table are gone. On the plus side, service was good and portions were overall generous. I think the staff was eager to please and for these things we tipped well. I hope my candid review will help this new business up their quality game and they would definitely see their volume improve. I always try to patronize small businesses and may try again some time down the road. I miss the good food that has always been a staple at this neighborhood favorite.
