Rye is a restaurant celebrating midwestern recipes, traditions, and culture using local Kansas & Missouri flavors and farmers. Rye has two locations, the original in Leawood, Kansas established in 2012 is located in the Mission Farms Center and Rye Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri opened in 2017. Rye showcases the Midwestern foods that chefs Megan and Colby Garrelts grew up eating. Both of these chefs are proud to be from the Midwest and Rye gives them the opportunity to feature dishes that they have enjoyed with several generations of their families.

I’ve tried Rye a few times in both of their locations and each experience has been absolutely amazing. They are well know for their fried chicken. It’s a must have. The fried chicken is very flavorful and possibly one of the best I’ve ever had. I also like the steak. I get my steak well done and very few places make a juicy well done steak. This place gets it right each time.

If you have the opportunity to meet Billie (sorry if I misspelled it), you definitely should. He is the shining star of this establishment & made our experience so enjoyable. Our waitress was very attentive as well. We started with a GINORMOUS cinnamon roll (my picture does not do it justice). Dessert first, right? I then ordered the Shrimp & Grits. Best I’ve ever had!! Mom ordered the Two Piece Fried Chicken & I snuck her drumstick. The outer crispness paired with the inner juicyness was over the top delicious. I will definitely be returning.

Took my husband here for his birthday and we were very disappointed with the food. We took the burnt ends appetizer and while it looked appealing, the insides of the burnt ends were bland and we had to add salt for them to taste better. The freshly baked bread was soft but would have been better if it was warm. Took the hanger steak entree and that was very bland too, no salt or spice (absolutely flavourless even with the chimichurra added). Creamed corn side dish was the only one I liked there.

Nice atmosphere, relaxed with a laid back feel. Most menu items I have tried were good, the steak selection seems incredibly expensive in comparison to higher end steak and chop houses, and the steaks I have seen leaving the pass do not match the price tag. Good selection of bourbons and whiskey. Service can be hit or miss, last visit the bar staff were really slow and inattentive, other visits they have been great!

Rye was really great. There were several flavors that just went together! The beet salad was great as well as the shrimp and grits! The pork chop was a hit and the lemon meringue pie really finished off the night! We will be back! The atmosphere was a welcoming classy feel with great food to follow.

Love everything about this place! The atmosphere was calming, our server Evan was very knowledgeable and cordial, and the food is delicious. My group enjoyed all our food (the Rye butcher board, squash soup, and the salmon/trout/chicken entrees). They also have an award winning bakery, and the banana creme pie is the best I’ve tasted!
