The Rusty Rooster… a catchy and unique name of a hidden gem in rural Waverly, TN. Have passed by numerous times and often thought about stopping. Last week me and the missus did just that. Upon entering you see the hometown diner atmosphere small space yet filled with people. People there of all walks of life yet in search of the same thing good food. You have your regulars who pop in and enjoy the coffee and grab a table with someone they run into there. Just normal Americana diner stuff. I expected a wait time upon seeing how packed they were. Never minded waiting for something good anyways. And boy was I delighted. Upon the many selections on the menu I ordered a dish I watched delivered to another table. The grilled chicken alfredo. Hands down the best tasting grilled chicken I’ve ever eaten from anywhere. My better half got the grilled shrimp and after the first time in our relationship she finished her food first I deemed it excellent. Good people, great place, excellent food. 10/10 will definitely return again.

Loved everything about this place. It was a Sunday after church so don’t be in a hurry. The food was delicious! Worth the wait. Waitress was super nice and attentive. Atmosphere was laid back, relaxing even with how busy it was. It’s busy because it’s good, home cooking!

Company and food are both warm and nourishing. I had to add an edit. We all eat there frequently and love it! But I have to give a particular shout-out to the peach cobbler! She doesn’t make it often, but if you see it on the menu, I Highly recommend it. I will be 70 in October and Southern all my life and it’s the best I’ve ever had.

I had fried boneless pork chops, DELICIOUS, white beans, DELICIOUS, and turnip greens, just so-so. The service was a bit slow, but our waitress was great. This was our first visit, but we will visit this establishment again. We live in Dickson, but it was worth the drive.
