I was soo excited that Roya was open on Christmas day eve! I love Afghan food! I got the Aushak and chicken kabobs. It came with a green salad. Which I thew away immediately as it was not fresh. The Aushak was flavorful a bit to much sour cream. But as it is 1 of my favorite dishes. I was happy. The Kabobs well the meat had a weird texture. I felt like I was eating a chicken substitute they were very charred but no smoke or cooking aromas from the kitchen so I have to assume that the chicken was prepackaged with char then just heated up..eww ? The rice was brown rice not the typical Afghan basmati rice. I was hoping to order some Tahdig! It also came with a type of brioche bread. Delicious but I do prefer a nice pita with my Afghan food and why no hummus? It was a bit pricey for what was included. For both items it was $40 including a tip. So a lot more expensive then my regular Afghan go to. My regular spot fresh delicious salad, fresh hot pita and hummus all complimentary. But hey they were open on Christmas. I will definitely NOT be back. The man that took my order was a bit curt. Not welcoming one bit! Seemed super put out by me. And it was empty?

Simply delicious Indian/middle eastern style food (forgive me, this is my first impression of Afghan food). Small and family owned. The lamb Korma and the tomato chicken dish had very delicate flavors and super tender meat.

Food is pretty good overall but very pricey. Have ordered from here multiple times. The beef is hit or miss, sometimes cooked perfectly sometimes over. Love the Buntu. The two best items they make, while is sounds simple, is their rice and their bread.

This was our first time eating Afghan so we have nothing to compare it to. It was delicious, not spicy and very interesting. We got the chicken and goat. We would eat here again.

Had takeout in person order ~15 min wait. The mantu is delicious – it’s an absolute must and comes in both appetizer or entree form, and the chicken dishes are v filling. One of the best Afghan restaurants I’ve ever been to and I come from Toronto, ON, Canada which has a strong base of amazing Afghan restaurants.

Never had afghan food before, and this place was a fantastic introduction. Very large portions and spiced extremely well. Mango lassi was also extremely thick and delicious.

Situated on First St in the centre of Livermore, Roya serves good Afghan food. While I missed the refinement of the Afghan spices a bit, I’d go here again for a still tasteful lunch.

Roya never disappoints foodies. From rice dishes to dumplings (Aashak, Mantu) to kababs (No other Afghan restaurant uses filet mignon for kabab). Trying the grilled prawns. Man! What a treat!! They are all simply delicious. Fred, the owner and his staff are polite, attentive, and make sure you are comfortable. He offers somewhat o a modernized Afghan food and I say good for him. I love his dishes.
