Welcome Home.
You see that written on a door mat or maybe it’s said with a tight hug and loving embrace when you walk back in the door from being gone for a while. For me, it is coming back to my Roots– my hometown, my alma mater university and to my original restaurant I opened as a 22-year-old in 1996. I’ve come back home and now I’m welcoming you into my 2nd home, a 2nd time.
And, now we have grown to Indianapolis and Carmel.
Come enjoy scratch cooking from our American comfort food kitchen. We want you to kick back, smile, enjoy yourself and let us do the work. See you soon.

I’m not going to say best burger I have eaten but the creativity that goes into each burger makes it stand out. Tons of options go outside your comfort zone it will be worth it. I will be back!

I tried the southern pride burger without pickle and my God. I think I found a burger better than five guys and reasonable. $13 bucks for a nice filling burger was well worth it!

Great location. Nice interior. Greeted with popcorn. Started out nice. After 5+ plus minutes we had to ask our hostess who our server was going to be. Decent /quick service after that. The Nachos looked great when they came out. Its was topping only – over 50% of the dish was tortilla chips. Ugh. Would try this place again bc of the location but not the best first impression.

We stopped in for lunch. We were sat in 5 minutes and the restaurant was about half full. You do get a nice little bucket of popcorn when you get seated.

I really wanted to love this place, but ugh, besides the atmosphere it just was not good. The restaurant is small but our waitress was not good. We saw her wheen she took our order and then not again until she gave us our check. We sat with missing food and no drinks just about the entire time. We had to ask another waitress for our missing food. We ordered the catfish dinner, which was extremely fishy tasting, almost Oster like flavor and the clam chowder was extremely thin and watered down. We also ordered nachos without lettuce and ended up getting lettuce on it, bit never saw our waitress so couldn’t get it corrected. The meat was also burned black. The only good part was the bartender with black was super super nice.

Food was meh. Fish and fries were way over cooked. The fish was overcooked to the point there wasn’t any fish left in half of the pieces. The staff was too concerned hanging out with each other then waiting on customers until shift change when they started actually sweeping and looking busy. Plenty of other competitors there’s no need to come back.

Rounded down to to 3 star but wanted to give a 3.5. Sunday lunch. Arrived the restaurant wasn’t busy. Restaurant seating room narrow and long rectangle we got stuck at the back by the restroom so gives you an idea of the smaller capacity when not even busy. Placed order and seemed to take awhile for food to arrive about 30 minutes later. After food delivery server was scarce as the place got busy. Large restroom but no partitions so one person and lined up. So could become a bottleneck. Had American burger double patty which with its special sauce was reminiscent targeting of a Big Mac or maybe Big Boy burger. We decided one patty should be fine in the future. Broccoli side was not overcooked and green not yellow thanks. For as many tv’s in the place managed to be seated where without turning around could view the single across the restaurant above the front window so had to turn around and look directly up. Not convenient. Others had patty melts (just ok) and peanut butter burger (West Lafayette XXX restaurant don’t worry). So this was an acceptable slightly above average smash burger but not on our top 2 or 3 for burgers. Young server seemed distracted and uncommitted with glancing eye contact even after the oversized gratuity why did I get so generous? Need to stop empathy just for middle of the road service. Polite but not engaged. This is table service, dining right? That’s what was noticed with other servers they didn’t engage customers to make it a pleasant inviting experience of dining out. PS thie owner is resurrected from prior lives Scotty’s Brewhouse, but smaller scale local strip mall market.

I really liked this place! Instead of bread, they give you a bucket full of popcorn! The menu is super unique. Sometimes, I find myself getting the same thing at the places I go, but I had a tough time choosing what to decide on, as there were a lot of different things that sounded so good at Roots. My burger was excellent, the staff were really friendly, and the bar area we ate in had a really great atmosphere. We’ll absolutely be back!

My burger was fine, and that was about it. Ordered mac and cheese and got a ton of cold cheese soup with some noodles floating in it. When we sent it back, we were told they couldn’t control “how soupy the mac was” so we asked for it to be taken off the bill. Then we asked a second time for it to be taken off the bill when our check came. Also we had to order a drink three times, and received it with our bill. You should save your money, and eat elsewhere. I don’t like leaving negative reviews and don’t do it very often, but this was abysmal.

It’s very hit or miss here. The service is usually good if there are adults serving you instead of the children and the burgers and wings are good. Do not get the Philly wrap, nothing about it is a Philly or even a steak wrap. It’s like low quality taco bell but for $15. Just a pile of nacho cheese, some dry meat, and a little bit of limp lettuce. We also got seated and served by actual children today (I’m talking ten and 13 idk how this is legal) and witnessed one have a tantrum when we mentioned an incorrect price on our bill (which was fixed by an adult) and it was extremely uncomfortable. She threw our receipt clipboard on the ground.
