My wife and I came here for dinner on a midweek evening in early August 2023. Lots of people in the area are away on vacation, so predictably the restaurant was relatively empty. Unfortunately that meant we could not eat in the parlor cars that other reviewers have mentioned. We were told those open for diners only on Friday and Saturday nights due to staffing shortages.

Business dinner in the train car was really fun, however we had to leave the door ajar for a while due to lack of temperature control (super hot at first, then super cold after the AC was turned on). Cheesecake was quite tasty but my steak was over cooked (I’m pretty sure they mixed up mine and another’s in the group).

Nice dining atmosphere. Filet was good and cooked well. Sides were good and generously portioned. We were quite hungry and did not receive bread service, nor anyone come by to check on us for drinks. I understand there are staffing shortages so could not really blame the waiters, but still disappointing. Ordered chocolate cake for dessert, it was meh, would not order it again. Overall decent and would go back when looking for a good steak.

Super cute themed train. It was conveniently next to the hotel we were staying at. The hostess and the waiter were so friendly and accommodating. I had the scallops and polenta and it was amazing. Highly reccomeded!!! Will definitely go back when nearby.

The food was delicious, the staff was very professional and friendly. We had shrimp cocktail (very fresh), the steaks were cooked to perfection, and the sides were tasty. I recommend the loaded baked potato to share. I gave the atmosphere 4-stars because I felt like the place smelled a little musty. I know it is an old building with a lot of history, but it just seemed musty. I do recommend this restaurant and go every time I am in the Madison area. Definitely make a reservation.

Our waiter did his best, and was a very pleasant server, but he was compensating for a very weak kitchen and bar. The prime rib came with no sides, just a slab of steak. The crab cakes were bland. A drink came out with floaty particulate stuff that shouldn’t be there, and while our waiter was lovely about replacing it immediately the replacement pour was half the size.
