It’s a Friday night, we wanted to treat ourselves at a Japanese restaurant. My friends already checked out this restaurant and recommended it to us. We arrived there at 7 and there were 2 seats available at the end of the table.

We had a wonderful evening omakase with Chef Jason tonight. He was very friendly and engaging and it was a pleasure to watch him work. The fish and presentation here are light and very fresh, letting the ingredients speak for themselves. We have ordered to go several times, but this was our first time eating at the counter.

What an amazing food experience. The chef made us some amazing dishes. One person in our party did not eat raw fish and he made all custom items. The sushi was incredibly fresh and so good. This is a must visit!!

Simply excellent. The best sushi you’ll find in New Haven by a long shot. Rockfish manifests their noble philosophy, “Nigiri is truth.” This is some of the highest quality fish I’ve ever had in my entire life (and I grew up on a tropical island). Order the Omakase and sit at the bar to receive starters of edamame and tuna sashimi in ponzu soy sauce, four rounds of nigiri, and two rolls–all freshly prepared in front of you. With every round, the wonderful staff explain what you’re eating, where it’s from, and how best to enjoy it. Critically, the fish, in all of its freshness and complexity of flavor, was the centerpiece of every single dish. Whether it was the creaminess of the yellowtail or the silky richness of the salmon, these sushi chefs knew how to perfectly complement the delicate flavor of the fish with a touch of wasabi and a bed of sushi rice. If you want to eat sushi as it was meant to be eaten, don’t miss out on this special experience.

I must admit I did not expect to find one of the best Omekase dinners in Connecticut here. But it is. Probably among the top 3 in the state. The preparations are simple and perfect, the fish are amazing, and Sushi Chef Jason Tay and his team make sure you feel welcome and at home. Highly recommended!
