No longer a restaurant. Now it is the visitor’s center for Taliesin, Frank Lloyd Wright’s estate in the driftless region of southern Wisconsin. The building still retains the incredible atmosphere of Wright’s design, now functioning well as a gift shop and gathering place for visitors to Taliesin. The view overlooking the Wisconsin River is amazing.

Food was good and service was prompt and friendly. Menu was very small. Dessert options were somewhat obscure. View was beautiful.

Yeah, Beautiful view and everything, but we went for the food. Got the buffet. Pork loin roast was good. The rest of the stuff had been on the serving table for a while. The pancakes were pretty dried out. There were some different fruit toppings and honey and sorghum… but the maple syrup was $1.00 extra!! I thought this was a semi high end place.

Wonderful cafe overlooking the Wisconsin River. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and now part odf the visitor center. Excellent farm to table cuisine. Definitely worth making part of your visit.

To call this a cafe is really incorrect. You can purchase items in the gift shop and sit at the tables. The view is pretty, but the premaid sandwhich was soggy/ inedible, and the scone undercooked leaving your mouth with that raw flour feel. We had a pop and chips too, for a total of 24$. Disappointing to say the least.

Recommend this place! The best food we’ve had since we left Omaha nine days ago. If this was in New York City I would be a regular. We had the Wisconsin flat bread and the hickory nut shortbread cookie – both excellent. Service was also excellent. I asked for an iced coffee, which they don’t have. A couple of minutes later a server turned up with a real iced coffee – not diluted hot coffee. She told me she used a bar tender’s trick to make it.

The cafe has a beautiful setting overlooking a bend in the Wisconsin River. It is located in an architecturally distinctive building originally designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, with construction overseen by William Wesley Peters and built by the Kraemer Brothers of Plain, WI. In addition to the great view and architecture, the food is very good with an American menu that has good variety including meat, fish and vegetarian. Pies are excellent. It is my favorite non-Italian restaurant in Wisconsin. Just for comparison, my favorite Italian is Biaggi’s in Middleton/Madison.

I feel like this place would have to get good stars just based on the fact that there doesn’t seem to be anyplace else to eat in the area, but the food was very good. Everything is grown locally and the food was more artisan that I would have expected for what is essentially a gift shop restaurant. I had initially thought about heading home from our trip and eating elsewhere, but I am very glad we stayed and I think you should too. 🙂
